I wouldn't consider it "loneliness". Schooling fish stay in large groups as a form of protection from predators. Schooling fish don't become lonely when kept alone, they become stressed, leading to compromised immunity, leading to disease, which can lead to death... Most non-schooling fish will have no problems being alone, but as MonsterFishKeeper said, fish that mate for life may mourn the separation from their partner... I, again, wouldn't call it loneliness, instead, removal of their chance at reproducing, therefor, failing their internal "purpose"... You can call it what you want, but yes, many fish can die from being alone.

Well, this is probably a debated topic,, being that it involves the theory that fish have feelings (emotional, not physical). But, there are some species that will choose a mate and stay with that mate for life, so I think it is a possibility for loneliness. But if it could cause death I'm not sure, if anything I could see it maybe stressing out the remaining fish and the stress leading to death. This is not scientific, just my thoughts on the subject.

I would guess that the proper cause of death if it is lonliness would be stress or illness caused by stress.
If the fish is a schooler or is just used to having many many other fish with it, and is then suddenly transfered to a tank where he is alone. He will stress. In the wild, a predator will cut through a school and gradually weed out just a few fish, or just one. This is in the fish's instincts, so when they are all of a sudden cut from a school of 20 to a "school" of one or two, instinct tells them that they are in serious peril and they will stress, or worry themselves, until they die from stress or catch an illness because their system is weakened because of stress and die from that.

initially, dont venture regarding the pH. 6.2 pH wont kill your fish. Assuming you have goldfish they are completely happy with a pH between 6 and eight. Dont use the pH 7 buffer, it is going to debris alongside with your flora, and wont do something to help your fish. appropriate pH makes use of Phosphate and Sodium salts to objective and 'restoration' the pH at a undeniable point. yet thats no longer fairly important. Now, why they died? Assuming the tank is new and not cycled that's going to be ammonia posioning. The 2d fish in basic terms died for an identical reason. while ammonia builds up interior the water fish are no longer any further waiting to excrete the waste from their bodies, it builds up of their bloodstream and assaults their inner organs. Then they die. you could save fish alive in the time of the cycle technique by making use of do extra beneficial water ameliorations, save that ammonia point low, and that they are going to proceed to exist. permit it get intense, they die. Take the appropriate PH decrease back, swap it for an ammonia / nitrite / nitrate try kit, and alter the water as needed to maintain the fish alive. Throw away the pH kit, you dont could desire to rigidity approximately it. Ian
