It depends on how much you ship. A freight forwarding company has expertise that goes along with doing high volume and you get economy of scale. If you are a huge company, you can develop these skills with in house staff, but a small company can't afford the costs due to inefficiencies and errors as well as irate customers.

A freight forwarding company is almost a must for international. They will know the customs rules. Your costs due to fines and delays will dwarf the forwarder's fees. Many forwarders operate their own bonded warehouses.

Perhaps, they won't lose it,or if they do maybe they have a better tracking system thaan the mail system..which will declare it delievered a box to the correct address but no one has ever seen it and now they cannot find it..wish I'd used a freight forwarding company.
