You're almost as tall as the average MAN in this country.

According to the National Center for Health Statistics, the average height for an adult male in the United States is:

* 69.2 inches, or
* 5 feet 9.2 inches

This statistic for the average height for an adult male is from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) conducted from 1999-2002.

I'm an inch shorter than my mom and about nine inches shorter than my dad. I'm pretty much used to that. But today's teenagers are much taller than their parents were at that age.

My parents are pretty close in height. I'm shorter than my father but taller than my mother. I married a man who is about the same height as I am but our daughters aren't taller than we are. My taller daughter is 5'10" and she's shorter than I am.

I'm also shorter than either of my parents (and fully grown and in my early 30s) and I like it. I enjoy being petitee. I think petit can be cute! Look at Reese Witherspoon! I enjoy being short... plus, they are always heels!
Edit:
You're really not at all short! I meant to say that but forgot. I consider myself short and I'm 5ft 1inch.

I would be happy to be that tall.. I'm only 5'4 and I HATE it.

I've never heard of it being embarrassing to be shorter than your parents.. It isn't really.

What? Are you serious? At 5'8" you're a lot taller than a lot of people/things.

No, your taller then me. I'm 5'4 (163cm) and I'm shorter then both my mum and my dad. I'm not embarrassed at all.

I would not be embarrased at all. One day I am sure you will be taller. You are their child, so what gives? I think it's fine.
