Every Sunday I go and buy groceries. And every Sunday at the check out I see magazines that "claim" Anglina Jollet is getting married, next week, Anglina Jollet is having an affair with... , and next week Angline Jollet is loosing her children, and next week, Anglina Jollet is getting married (again), etc. etc.
OF COURSE ALL OF THIS IS NOTHING BUT LIES AND LIES.
But the girls who work at the cash registers say EVERY DAY older women buy all these magazines, 4-6 at a time, every week, after week, after week.
Ladies, do you really LOVE to read about people getting sick, getting separated, having affairs, getting divorces, loosing their children, etc. etc. NOTHING happy or positive in their lives? ONLY bad, bad, bad?
How sad for you!!

I suppose it's akin to the men who buy "men's magazines" (you know, for the articles and not the photos... :)
I'll read a People or similar magazine if I'm stuck waiting for an appointment and don't have anything else to read. I'll glance at the headlines if the line to the cashier is long....
The last time I bought magazines from the rack was right before I entered the hospital for some major surgery-I picked up Ladies Home Journal, Good Housekeeping, etc. To be honest, I subscribe to Smithsonian, Discover, and some of my trade journals, I prefer them to tabloids. I wish more younger people spent time reading these types of magazines...I don't think it's the older women who follow Britney's and Paris' every move.

Well if they are focusing on the negative ya it is sad for'em lol..
But I think the reading of the tabloids is more about escapism to a degree of the mundane everyday living ...a peek into the lives of the rich and famous.
And when they read about their struggles that we all go through, it makes their fairytale lives of excess the average joe and only dream about seem a little bit more 'normal'.
And face it people like Lindsey Lohan and Britney Spears are trainwrecks and their antics seem outrageous to most people because in the so called real world theyd be held accountable and have some serious consequences.

Well la-de-da! Isn't it amazing how people who have ranted the most about the " rag magazines" and the "idiots" who buy them, take the time to know what and who are discussed in them???!!! I sometimes buy them to read in bed before I go to sleep if I don't feel like reading the book I'm reading at the moment. I certainly don't consider myself an idiot! I consider myself a very well educated lady with three degrees, two masters.....that just enjoys reading the rags sometimes. That doesn't mean I believe everything I read. Let's play nice hmmm? I earned my money so it's pretty much my business how I spend it right?

Oh, I just LOVE to read about
the DIRT on the high and
mighty. I'm too cheap to buy
the papers tho, I ask a friend
to bring old ones from her
beauty parlor.
I am really sick of Angelina
Jolet tho. they are making
millions off her and I think she
really has some demons she
must get rid of. I doubt if
she will ever marry Brad as
she hates her dad so much.
She's to be pitied actually.
I got mad when she had
Shiloh ceaserian cause she
didn't want to mess up her
boobs.
What is ICONOCLASTIC
BEHAVIOR???

Everyone loves gossip. But I never see Older Women buying these magazines & papers at the grocery store. They don't have any money to spare with the high price of everything. Also, women are not the only ones interested in such things, men are guilty, too.

Those papers and magazines are hogwash and most people know it. Even the ones that buy them probably take what's written with a grain of salt. When I was a grocery cashier it seemed like i sold most of them to the 20 to 30 year olds. Maybe they're the same people now.

I was going to say, "Trash better burned." After reading these answers I see they really do serve a purpose for some people. So I think I am just a stuffy old man with his head stuck in books about alternative religion. As a buddy of mind use to say, "Whatever blows your skirt up."

On a positive note about the Enquirer. It's gained more credibility in recent years. I think Dog Chapman's son took his newbreaking story to them. They pay and people of questionable character come to them first. This makes them, Enquirer magazine and the public very happy. People LOVE this stuff.

I don't buy them, I barely have time to read the worthwhile things I have. I actually like to hear good news, life has enough bad news the way it is.
I don't think it's just older women buying them though, there has to be an awfully big market for them to keep them around so long.

I don't like those, but every now and then I like to buy Weekly World News. You know the one were they discovered "bat boy" and "Sasquatch" is a member of congress. Oh and my favorite-Hillary Clinton is an alien! They are great. It's kinda like a comic book for adults.
