The Funeral director comforts the family and helps them come to terms with the loss of their loved one. The funeral director provides the services like embalming. The funeral directors employ reconstructive artists because some individuals die in traumatic accidents. The embalmer that is good in reconstructive arts can make the deceased look like they are simply sleeping and the family can view and pay respects for them. After the funeral the director stays in touch if they need counseling. It seems in certain aspects a Funeral director is dealing with the family members burying there loved one. A neighbor told me she knew her husband would die but nothing prepared her for it. Just like a Psychologist deals with people in stress don't people pass through the 5 stages Denial, anger, Bargaining, depression and acceptance.

During my Grandmothers funeral my Aunt Broke Down crying and I held her. One funeral director asked me if she was going to be OK. At the cemetary when it was time to leave it overwhelmed my step grandfather and the director asked my father to watch over my step-grandfather.

So you'll want to ask about how a funeral is set up in terms of planning and coordinating--flowers, newspaper notices, priest or other officiant, wake or calling hours, church, transportation of the body, of the family, burial, the plot, the casket, or if there will be cremation, the urn, etc.

Then you need to ask about what they do to make a difficult time less stressful. What sort of tone do they use when talking to the family? How do they convey their sympathies? What can they do so that the family doesn't need to do something?
