Not according to the Geneva Convention.
Also, it is not simply a matter of right and wrong, but also the stance that and persona that America has taken in the international world as it relates to human rights. The U.S. has been quick to criticize and sanction other countries for their treatment of P.O.W.'s, citizens, and political defectors. For the U.S. to now sit back and be guilty of the same type of behavior is hypocritical and makes the United States even less relevant in the international community.

First of all, torture is not effective. This has been shown again and again by many studies. Also, too much reliance on torture will make us less inclined to favour more effective forms of counter-terrorism, such as intelligence gathering and analysing, and straight police work. It also impacts negatively on the values that form the very basis of our society. Every time we erode individual freedom, we lose the respect of others and our self-respect. I find it essential to think that I am part of a community which holds the life and the physical integrity of any man sacred, which respects its personal freedom. When my country is associated with acts of that nature, such as torture in Algeria or the bombing of the Rainbow Warrior -I'm French-, I feel ashamed, and less inclined to be a part of that society. And let's face it, ten thousand CCTV cameras, the death penalty and torture will not stop any criminal or terrorist to act as he does.

If you torture some one, it is a pretty sadistic act. What stops someone being tortured from giving you false information so you will stop? Torture is for thugs and criminals. Our country should lead by example and not with aggression. As we commit the same acts as terrorists, we become one in the same. What's the difference? They torture for information. Sound familiar?

Is it morally appropriate to torture a terrorist prisoner for counsel that would desire to shop the existence of your mom, father, brother, sister, spouse, husband, female chum, boyfriend, son, daughter? each and every "harmless existence" is enjoyed by employing somebody. What if it replaced into your loved ones? Is it ethical to no longer torture them?

Torture is NEVER ok, because it has been proven that it DOESN'T work. Worse still if we use it, that means that everybody else has the right to use it as well.
If the government is allowed to use it against foreign enemies why not against perceived national ones? were do you draw the line? is there a line you wouldn't cross?

Hell yes
I have seen several different versions of the story that "you can't get the truth from torture" and my response is that then your not doing it correctly then.
go talk to some vets from WW2 if you want to get a good answer to that one and you will be surprised.
I was.
All my teachers in school and Church told about how we always took the high road and never mistreated prisoners and I believed them.
Then I got into the real world and met some combat vets that told me how we really managed to win when we fought.
You do what it takes and then try to sleep with it.
