weird, anyone ever get this?

i mean im kinda skeptical about the existence of god (not cause i think my life sucks and noone cares about me) but from a psycolgical stnadpoitn, like who says that if you live abad life something bad happens to you when you die, noone knows for sure so im gonna live my life and see what happens when you die

its frustrating talking w/ die hard christians b/c there so sure that all the times theve tried to do god have been so they can go to heaven, but i mean you have no profof that god exists or religion is right, same as i have my opinions

iunno this started out as a weed quesion but what r your spiritual beliefs?

Yeah, I used to feel that way, too. I remember once (in college, I'm a grown up now) I told my friend, "You know, Jesus totally has to be smoking pot. There's just no way he doesn't. This is totally spiritual."
But, after a lot of personal growth in many arenas I think what I found was that marijuana like other drugs releases inhibitions. You probably don't have any clue how much your preconceived notions of wrong and right and what must and musn't be done guide you on a daily basis.
For the most part, this is good so you're not out killing strangers and stuff.
But, too many times people get so caught up in it, they don't allow themselves peace and time to think expansively about the world and spirtuality. No matter what your religion or religious beliefs are, most (if not everyone) can benefit from some down time and spiritual connection.
So, pot kind of slows you down, gives you time for your brain to concentrate. And, because it can tend to give you focus (usually on just one particular thing -- like how hungry you suddenly are or how funny Robot Chicken is), if you've got God and whatnot on the brain, you'll zero in on it time and again, trying to mull it over.
Unfortunately, pot doesn't really make you any smarter, so this cycle could go on forever, with you gaining bits and pieces of knowledge, but never truly figuring out anything.
You might find that you feel the same spiritual closeness by meditating, doing yoga, having some "quiet" time where you don't answer the phone, etc., and just connecting with yourself and whatever it is you've decided to concentrate on.
Or, you might try that and find that, no, the only time God "speaks" to you is when you're high.
In that case, maybe God's message to you is "smoke on, brother."

It's probably different for each person. For me, I get light-headed, giggly and I get the munchies. I don't smoke it very often - just for fun. I have a roommate (she's Dutch, of course!) who smokes it everyday when she's at home. She uses it to relax and it has the same effect on her with regards for focus/concentration - on an essay, say - that a couple of glasses of red wine would have for me. There are also different types of marijuana: body stoned, or head stoned. I prefer head stoned, because it relaxes me but I can still do things normally. Body stoned makes you more sleepy and lets you just veg out. I've also been sick from it before, too as I mixed it with alcohol. Bad move for me, so be careful!

I have a friend who is (considers himself) a very devout Christian, and he believes that God gave us marijuana and other mind expanding substances (he doesn't do psychedelics, by the way) to help some people, though it's not for everyone. He tells me that when he smokes pot he finds himself increasingly enamored of God and his creation and it causes him to draw closer to God. And of course, as everyone knows, there have been cultures and religions all over the world all through history that have used drugs to reach altered states of consciousness by which they can ponder different aspects of the divine. It's not unusual, but it's definitely not an American evangelical practice. They'll throw you in jail for it and think they're doing God's will when they do. Good luck staying out of their "cross" hairs.

When you use drugs you are more likely to see and hear things that are not there, but in some cases it can heighten real senses by surpressing others, thus allowing you to perceive things you would normally fail to notice.

I personally beileve there is a little bit of God in all of us, and our whole universe has a mind of cosmic proportions, but we can know less of what the Cosmos thinks than an ant knows what the nest is thinking (or our heart cells know about quantum mechanics).

-----

Pot surpresses your more logical left brain more so than the right intuitive side.

This can allow artistic tallents and intutions to come to the foreground.

There are two areas of the brain that is associated with religious or haunting experiences.

These areas can be stimulated either by direct physical means (such as prodding your brain with a stick or electrode) or indirectly by influencing brain waves via radio waves or similar electromagnetic waves (such as an unshilded electrical device such as a radio alarm clock next to your pillow).

Natural geological formations can sometimes give of such waves causing areas to feel blessed or haunted.

When you smoke pot your surpressed logic would likely allow you to more likely notice the "illogical" stimulations of your religious centres.

The fact that these feelings can be artificially stimulated by things like faulty clock-radios suggests that religious experiences need not always be trusted.

We have however evolved sensory organs that do perceive real things. Our eyes and ears have evolved to help us survive by telling us about the real world.

If our religious centres actually evolved to percieve real entities (and not just make us feel better about priest telling us what to do) then smoking pot might get you closer to God.

I suggest however you try more healthy methods such as Yoga or meditation because like grog, pot is addictive and more than one puff a day might lead to psychological problems and having two headed sperm.

Send me a message if you want to know more.

As to my own religious experiences: like you I am wary of religious people telling me what to believe. I have however had things I interpreted as answers to prayer etc. and experiences I like to attribute to a relationship with God.

Whether these experiences were generated by subconscious areas of myself or link to something outside of myself I could not say for sure.

You might find some further resonance with http://www.yogananda-srf.org ("Autobiography of a Yogi," Yogananda), http://www.tiller.org ("Psychoenergetic Science," William A. Tiller, Ph.D.), "The Reincarnation of Edgar Cayce?", Free and Wilcock, http://www.divinecosmos.com

As regards weed, it is imho a potential spiritual laxative for the materialistically constipated. A trap is indeed blissing out on "Nickolodeon," for weed forces open one's spiritual centers ("Man's Subtle Bodies and Centres," O. M. Aivanhov, "Climb the Highest Mountain," Mark Prophet) and tends to consume one's spiritual capital and energy. If one uses weed to bliss out with tv or to watch the amazing qualities of fresh dog poop, etc., that's a bit wasteful of something (spiritual centers, chakras, neuronal pathways) being opened and likely misunderestimated (to quote our President).

Somewhat similar to Viagra; if one is going to "turn on" with stimulants, and one's moral/spiritual development is dwarfish, it is similar to handing a child keys to a car without the child particularing caring where she may go.

"Kundalini West," Ann Ree Colton, goes into how raising spiritual awareness is more than simply Gonzo popping a pill.

EEG studies have shown that Buddhist monks enter high gamma wave states within seconds of beginning meditation, states that otherwise are linked with very creative peak experience. These monks develop both their meditation protocol and their spiritual awareness and moral sense, so that they are able to do well. Weed or Viagra or the kind of out-of-body-inducing apparatus psychiatrist Olga Khartidi helped build in a major physics institute ("Entering the Circle") are somewhat up-and-down, quick and dirty, mind-trips.

When you or someone prays during weed (or Viagra or oobe-inducing), there is a better chance one is making some serious "headway" (no pun intended). However, the problem with enhancement is e.g. weed's spacing of neuronal gaps, etc. Delicate bodily features, little understood by present-day science, may be compromised, particularly if the weed-user is angry, delusional, eager for ouija board type spirits, etc.

So, in short, prayerful activity without Viagra or weed may be slower, but more likely to bring lasting positive results (by their fruits shall ye know them). Weed or Viagra or oobe-induction without prayer, personal spiritual lovingkindness, may be so much sweaty Nickolodeon, and (deceptively) cost more than it's worth.

I'd be cautious, and perhaps try to wean myself away from enhancing spiritual experience by adding drugs or whatever to my own natural wholeness.

cordially,

j.

I know what you are talking about, and there is a real reason behind it. Do a thourogh search on the function of the pineal gland to understand how it works, and check out this site also:
