I really shouldn't be doing this because this question smells of homework. But the protagonist is Ichabod Crane as the story tells of Ichabod's "quest" to win the heart of Katrina van Tassel. The primary antagonist is Abraham van Brunt, better known as Brom Bones. He is Ichabod's primary rival for the fair Katrina's heart. The secondary antagonist is the Headless Horseman due to the fact that he chases Ichabod on that fateful night and causes him to vanish from the area, though if you follow the story then there is a possibility that the Horseman was actually Brom in disguise. But as Irving explains, the good Dutch housewives know better and it really is the spirit of the dead Hessian.
