One, oil had little to do with Iraq - the controlling interests in oil there were and are French and Russian. Two, prices go up for a lot of reasons - the worldwide demand largely fueled by China for oil has surpassed the world's ability to process said oil so the old "trick" of getting Saudi Arabia to pump more oil to keep prices down is no longer affective. The instability in the Middle East where most of the proven oil is located makes investors afraid to invest in oil so infrastructure improvements and research have to be done internally putting upward pressure on prices. The vast majority of US oil comes from four sources: the USA, Mexico, Venezuela, and northwestern Africa but if others can get higher prices, these places will too. Oil and gasoline are heavily taxed and there has been little demand to lower these taxes to keep gasoline prices at more normal levels. Due to environmental concerns, building or upgrading refineries in the USA is nearly impossible.
Since demand isn't going anywhere, prices will continue to climb causing nearly everything else to increase in price too. This will continue until new sources of energy become cheaper then oil but sources need to be realistic. Using a food/animal feed crop for a gas substitute is self defeating especially when there is so much yard waste available and especially since Brazil already makes ethanol from sugar cane (it is essentially banned in the USA by a prohibitive tariff). It'll be decades before a major shift from oil can be had - prices will not drop without a worldwide depression.

If you think this war is about oil,you have much more than 5$ gas to worry about.Wake up child, what part of death to the U.S. do you not understand? What about this for a new rule, women cant go out in public without having their face covered,or,become Muslim or be decapitated?Oh yea,men take classes on how to properly beat their wife,Those are just a few of the things we could have to worry about.Stop listening to the people with their head in the sand and get behind your country.

The world's oil production is diminishing. From now on, oil will be harder and more expensive to get out of the ground. As there's less and less oil, our current suppliers will be more reluctant to sell it to us as they'll be wanting to keep reserves for their own country. It's said that Iraq has untapped oil wells and we (the U.S.) wants to secure as much oil as we can for ourselves. Expect to see even more wars fought around the world in the future for precious resources.
I believe gas prices will slowly rise in the near future and then skyrocket after the election.

The majority of our (U.S. ) oil comes from the south or the north of the boarder. I doubt that gas will reach $5.00 a gallon. The media ALWAYS hypes this up to send people into a frenzy. Gas almost always goes up just around a holiday, than magically some how the ol companies find a surplus and you start seeing the price go down. Don't sweat this.

We have oil, we are not allowed to drill for it. We have a President and Congress who are all about themselves. When they are up for re-election, send them home. Re-electing the same ones makes it certain things will stay the same.
The oil companies put out alot of b.s. If you don't like the high prices, think motorcycles..

USA is fighting Israel's war by proxy, all of the profit (including oil and defense contracts) is merely compensation to American large corporations (and financial kickbacks to politicians).
The losers are the Iraqi people, Families of the killed US military service personnel and the 70,000 injured US soldiers.
In financial terms the losers are (again) the Iraqi people (for generations to come) and the American taxpayer (also for generations to come).
The winner is Israel, it has again used the USA in a foreign conflict in order to intervene and support Israeli interests, it has succeeded in liquidating Israel's (then) greatest threat (in Saddam) without paying any price in terms of Israeli lives or finance.
In the middle east at least , America has become Israel's military puppet.
Roll on Iran, ditto.

You're goofy, we don't get any oil from Iraq, we get most of it from OPEC, I believe via Saudi Arabia, Venezuela and Mexico (3 OPEC nations.)
We're in this situation because of speculators who want us to pay $5 a gal. at the pump so they can get more rich.
