The current operational commander wrote the book on counterinsurgency plus he was given more troops to get the job done. RAND estimated in 2002 that 500,000 troops would be needed and the army is stretched thin so this window of opportunity will only last until spring. Now if we can get that dimwitted Congress, defeatist Europe, Iraq, and the stone colossus of the UN to stop playing games, something positive might even come of this "window".
