I am doing a debate Lincoln-Douglas style on the issue of same-sex marriages. I am on the con side of the situation and my teacher wants me to focus more on the government in the United States and the constitution/amendments. Honestly I can't seem to figure out what he's trying to nudge my partner and I to, but I have come up with some ideas. By posting this question I do not mean to offend any person because I actually support same-sex marriage, all the more making it harder for me to see what my teacher is trying to point out.

I really appreciate the fast responses, but can I please ask that people refrain from immaturity. This is a serious question and I'm looking for serious answers, I thank those who have given me so. As for looking down on my school... its the Academy of Allied Health and Science one of the top schools in the country, so please don't make assumptions your kids are gonna learn about sex at some point and along with that comes insest, porn, and homosexuality, it's natural so chill.

He is probably pointing out that the Constitution calls for the separation of Church and State. Marriage is a religious cerimony sanctioned by the church. The government has no right interceding in marriage. It is a state issue which should be dealt with as a civil union issue. The church can say no marriages between same sex couples, but states can legalize civil unions and grant the same rights to same sex couples that are afforded to marriages.

Could go on a rant about morality. Or that marriage since its establishment has always been a formal union of a man and a woman.

Well, let's see, the chief argument against sex marriage, is usually one related to religion, and how all mainstream religions condemn same-sex sexual relations. Now granted, America has a 'church separate from state' policy, but it is still founded by and on Christian beliefs. So while saying simply 'the bible says it is bad' is a moot point, you could still go with the fact that the country was founded on Christian beliefs and traditions. So in other-words, argue about same-sex marriage being against American tradition.

From a more sociological standpoint, you could argue that heterosexual marriage provide the procreative foundation of the family unit which is the backbone of civilization, and that same-sex marriage is counter-productive.

That's about all I got, at least, that would be appropriate for a paper.

There is no part of the US Constitution that mentions legislating a persons sex life.

There is no part of the Constitution that provides for government interference in an individual's rights.

It does however, explicitly state, that individuals are to not be forced into government forms of social contracts.

Same sex marriage is evil and a civilised nation governed by laws of ethical standard and morals recognising or legalising such abnormal union or marriage is absolutely weakening its existence as a country where normal family (father, mother and children) are cornerstone of its foundations.

The Constitution has nothing to do with "same sex marriage" one way or the other.

your teacher is doing this because for years they have been trying to push it in the public school system, as alternative life-styles, that's why I sent my children to a private school, I would not tolerate, some teacher telling my children, that this is okay!!!!!! God made adam and eve, not adam and steve, and I agree with the constitution to ban it.
