4y² + 5y - 6. Find two factors of (4)(-6) = -24 that add to (+5) [they're 8 and -3], then factor by grouping.
4y² + 5y - 6
= 4y² + (-3y + 8y) - 6
= (4y² - 3y) + (8y - 6)
= y(4y - 3) + 2(4y - 3)
= (y + 2)(4y - 3).

= 4y^2 + 5y - 6
= (4y - 3) (y + 2)
4y - 3 = 0, 4y = 3, y = 3/4
y + 2 = 0, y = - 2
Answer: y is either 3/4 or - 2

I think I answered your last answer...well I'll help you with this one too because factoring is one of the best things I know.
Multiply first and third terms
4*-6=-24
What multiplies to give you -24, adds to give you 5?
8 and -3
Here it is rewritten:
(4y^2+8y)-(3y-6)
Simplify:
4y(y+2)-3(y+2)
Your answer is:
(4y-3) (y+2)
Check your answer by foiling:
(4y-3)(y+2)
4y^2+8y-3y-6
4y^2+5y-6
Again, hope this helps!

I am going to teach you how to read these equations.
What are the factors of 4 and 6 that subtract to give you a positive 5?
4 ----> 1,4 and 2,2
6 ----> 1,6 and 2,3
which combination will (subtract) to give you (+)5
4x2=8
1x3=3
8-3=5
(4y - 3)(y + 2)

4x(-6) = -24
then try the factors 1,24; 2,12, 3,8; 4,6
because it is negative you subtract until you find the one that match the coeff of y. In this case 8-3 = 5
4x2 = 8 1x3 = 3
(4y - 3)(y + 2)
