What does "2 year activation" and "refurb" on cell phones mean?

I want a Blackberry Pearl Refurb, because its chaper than the regular one, $30, does this mean I have to pay $30 each month for 2 years?
Why is it so much cheaper than the non-Refurb one?

Refurbish mean that someone bought the phone used it and now they are returning the phone to the cell phone provider. The phone is not new but the cell phone provider will sell the phone used. In this case the Blackberry Pearl is not $30 but only discounted probably $30 less then the retail cost of a 2 year contract.

A 2 year activation means you are locked into the cell phone provider for at least 2 years. If you break that contract, then you will pay a termination fee approximately $175.00 plus your current month cell phone bill.

refurb generally means that it is refurbished, which is that it is used but restored to factory condition. Most of the time refurb is just as good as new but obviously cheaper. 2 year agreement means that you argree to their service for 2 years, if you cancel before the 2 years is over they will charge you a termination fee which is usually about $200.
