I've been keeping the water at 81 degrees and I can't seem to breed my glowlight tetras.

Are you sure you have both a male and a female? If you have other fish in the tank, it is possible that they are eating the eggs immediately after the female releases them (because Tetras lay eggs, the female is not technically pregnant). If you really want fry (baby fish), separate the male and female into their own 5 gallon tank with a heater. Make sure the water is soft and acidic (pH of 6.5ish). Contact me if you have any questions.

If you are trying to breed tetras, the term is eggladen not pregnant. I'm not trying to be a jerk, I am tying to be informative. Okay, a few things to check are obviously whether or not you have both male and female, this is difficult to determine, however it is possible. I can easily tell the gender of neons and I believe it is similar in glowlights, you look for a slight bend or break in the red line that extends from their eye to their tailfin. If they have a bend, then it is a female. Make sure you have both. Now here is what you can do to breed. You can get a small 5 gallon tank and put them in it with a netted botom, just small enough for eggs to fall through, but not too big for the fish to get down into, no gravel is necessary. Then when you get eggs, you just put the fish back in the community tank. Feed the fry on bbs or first bites. Tetras aren't live bearing fish they lay eggs that then need to be fertilized by a male tetra, therefor they don't really get pregnant. Most fish will not breed if they do not believe there is enough space. Also, if you have a sucker fish, cat fish or any other type of fish that eats from the bottom the eggs will never last long enough to hatch.

These are difficult to breed. They like to have lots of plants, low light, soft, slightly acidic water, and raise the temp.to 82 degrees. The parents will eat the eggs if you can get them to breed,so take them out if they do.Feed the fry brine shrimp, and change the water frequently.
