I'd feel bad too. If you have a dog or cat, pick them up and give them some love. It's the only way you can ever give back.

I am sorry about that, I guess I would feel bad too if I was you.
well, you do like that guy said "don't eat meat and be a vegetarian for a week (you can skip day if it is hard and then just collect together one week)"
or more than a week.
basically here is what you can do.
1) pray for the racoon because it was a life and you accidently kill it.
2) do more good deed to pray (well, in Buddhism forward merit to the racoon). red cross, donate money to vegan group. like vegan outreach
3) learn that all live has feeling and that learn to be more compassion to all lives around you, human, ppl, ant, animals.
4) be vegaritarian for few days, weeks or as long as you want, it is a good deed in Buddhism because you're compassion so you decide not to eat or kill.
5) next time go to fish bait shop and buy some live bait (shrimps, fish or small crabs) and let them go immediately make sure you let them go soon like within few mintues, because fish run out the oxgyen fast and then they die.
so you reptence your bad karma
last but not the least, I think you're so kind that you feel bad for kill a racoon that mean you did not mean it and just keep pray for the racoon, I will pray for it too.
don't feel bad. just use this is a way that you learn from the raccon so his (the raccon) did not die for nothing, he die and he make you realized that to be more compassion and more aware the lives around you and because of his death you do more good deeds. then he is going to be at a better place.

I understand what you are going through..
I live out in the country and things like this happen on a regular basis. It doesn't make it any easier but if the raccoon was not there anymore, I am sure it is fine and just had to walk of it's headache.
Don't worry too much and there is no reason for feeling bad. I am sure you or your mom did not do it on purpose. Accidents happen.
Good luck.

That damn racoon was going over to a local camp for children where he planned to spread rabies throughout. You and your mother unwittingly foiled his fiendish plans. Plus the fact your mom did'nt swerve and send a busload of grandmothers ove a cliff. You can also look at it as one day you're the racoon, one day you're the tire. Just be thankful for what you have and if you know you did not intentionally hit the racoon, I believe God will overlook it.

Those are some evil animals really. its probably good that one less might be off of this earth I really don't know what their purpose is anyways. Yes it sucks to hurt an animal but they don't think about that when they go and scratch a person and give them rabies. Why should we think twice about it if we hit them with our car? What if the raccoon was gonna go and bite someone's dog so it would have rabies then have to be put down or even worse bite the owner or something. Ever think about that? Maybe by killing that one single raccoon you saved a dog's life and also a person's life. You are actually a hero! yeah thats what I want to believe!

Oh my goodness that poor coon. Oh well can I ask you this why was he not in the cross walk anyway. Was he just trying to get hit by your car? Blue (the cat) says he always waits to walk across the street until after the cars drive by. But he says his squirrel friends always like to play chicken with cars and cause humans to get into accidents. Raccoons live fairly long lives and he was hit by your car for a reason. God must have made him forget about the cross walk. OK we made you laugh admit it and give me 10 points. Blue (the cat) says just pray for the robber raccoon who stole from the garbage can and move on. Tell your mom that god just wanted to see her heart skip a minute. You guys eat some ice cream now and just be careful next time a critter crosses your path.

I can truly understand how you feel, I was driving a year ago on a HWY in Wyoming, and looked up to only see a huge Elk standing there, and I know I grazed him at least, but cried and cried cause I felt so horrible, always wondering if I killed him, hurt him to cause him pain, ect. I'm a true animal lover and just the thought of hitting something in my car tears me apart. Sadly theres nothing we can do about it, we can only pray that they are okay and go on as hard as it can be. I do understand how you and your mom feel right now. Best wishes...

If it was gone that means it has to live with unimaginable pain. But if you go to to the website i listed below, you will see that all raccoons you run over, are much luckier to be ran over by you than to be in china (those are actual raccoon dogs, a member of the dog family, but same thing). Should make you feel better for that little raccoon.

There's very little you can do about it, it's just how nature works nowadays. You went back to see if you can help it and it ran off, you did all you could. All you can do is try to be a bit more careful on the road, that's all!
