I have two trees in the backyard that I want gone. Well, I am cutting them down so they are about 4 feet tall. They are leaning way to much and they will come down on the garage in the right storm. It would take about 45 minutes per tree and they are not large at all.

4 feet tall? Shouldn't cost anything. Cut them down yourself. I have cut down 15 to 20 foot trees in about 15 to 20 minutes with a tree saw. If you mean you want them cut back to 4 feet tall than the cost will depend on the size and the location. I just had 3 60 to 70 foot trees cut down yesterday. The tree firm left all the wood chips, took the lumber, stumped the trees and it cost $1000. It took them about 4 hours because of the heighth and the power lines. If you trees are not that tall and the only threat is to the garage, you should be able to get the job done for $200. It sounds like you want them trimmed/pruned if you still want them to be 4 feet tall. That will not cost as much as removing them completely.

Pixie, up there, is right on the money!..... since you are going to leave four ft stumps (great idea, by the way, nice place to put bird feeders or water saucers!!... )and won't need the stumps ground out, you save that way..... but getting all the limbs cut off first, then taking chunks of the trunk will take a little more than your 45 minutes!!....

other thing... be very sure that your cutter guys have great insurance!!... when they took down some trees at my son's house, a 'bad bounce' from a limb, sent it right thru the side of the neighbor's house!!!.... and another time, one of the men was hurt during the cut and on his property, without good insurance by the company, it could have been bad...... protect yourself!!!....

you got some interesting answers.
I run a tree service in AZ and can tell you it reallly depends on where you live, if the tree is accessable from the street or in a closed yard [ because of manpower needed] and how big the tree is.
a small tree on the street, say 15 feet tall that I can send 2 guys to do in 3 hours would run you about $350.00
a huge tree ie75 ft tall in your back yard that has no access will run you close to $10,000.
the difference comes in when I can utilize a lift truck to cut the tree down v.s having to send in climbers and bring it all down on a pulley system, then hand carry everything to the street.

depending on how much lean your trees have and why they are leaning, it may not be safe to climb them and your estimate of 45 minutes, does that include having to rope everything down to avoid damage or just dead dropping it? also, does that include the time it takes to cut it up, load or chip it, and the time and expense you will not see of having to get your tree off my truck and the dump fees?

I don't know about the rate of growth exactly, But, my neighbors have some pine trees that seem to grow a foot or two a year. I have a friend who does tree work. He removed a 40-foot maple from my neighbor's yard for $250 (stump and all).

Call your local tree service or a handy man that does tree removal. To remove a tree according to size from 250 bucks to 500 bucks per tree.

Well, it's safer to have professionals do it for you. So my suggestion is:
Look up all your local tree trimers/cutters and call them for an estimate. They should give you a free estimate, but just to be sure ask first
Secondly, makes sure that they know you don't want them to come right away to cut them. A friend of mine had problems with her tree trimmers, so stress the fact that it is only an estimate only.

my cost was 250 per tree, but I am in the deep south and things are a bit cheaper down here.

Probably about $300, depending on where you live and depending on how much debris has to be hauled away.

Truth is that it all depends on your regional location.

Have you looked at your yellow pages???
