I am planning on painting some pieces and then attaching them sporadically to my wall to create shelves/ push boards. Any suggestions on how to attach them to the wall? It has to be easily removed since I'm in a rented apartment.

Styrofoam is not intended to be used as insulating in living spaces unless it is contained between non combustible surfaces due to the gases it gives off when burning. There are other expanded foam products that r code approved. I'd seal the wall regardless, but I'm curious how ur planning to attach sheetrock over the foam board. more glue? I love better living through modern chemisty, but a mechanical fastening system is alway better.

Go with Scout 485.We have used command adhesive on brand new wood custom made cabinets with no damage.
My wife just had to hang plates on the side of cabinets and I was not going to let her put holes in the wood. We also used them hang towel racks in the shower on tile and after one year and many showers they are still there.

3M removeable hangers. May have to get creative on how to hang the styrofoam on them, but would not damage the wall. Another option would be self stick velco, and hopefully you could peel it off when you move.
