why did Malcolm and donalbain leave, they knew that they didn't do the murder....so if Malcolm would have stayed he would have been the king
so why did they leave? and why was Macbeth appointed the king when Duncan decided that Malcolm should be the next king...???

Because they thought if they stayed, they would be murdered next.

Macbeth was appointed King because Malcolm and Donalbain fled, and after them, Macbeth was next in line, seeing as he was good friends with the king, and Thane of both Glamis and Cawdor.

They were afraid of being murdered; they figured that whoever murdered Duncan would want them dead also.
