I think it originally belonged to the protista kingdom, but was later switched to fungi.

Does anyone know which kingdom they are in now?

Actually, it was originally classified as fungi. But because after studying the slime mold it was discovered to lack certain characteristics (chitin in cell walls) that fungi did, scientists moved it to kingdom Protista.

In the six-kingdom system, slime molds are still in Kingdom Protista.
