Ignore ads in magazines, papers and tv. Do something else when ads are on TV. Don't aim to get what everyone else gets. Focus on people and activities, especially those that don't cost money. Read, walk, do things that help you grow, help you feel better that gives meaning to your life. Learn how to be a conversationalist. Put limits on your spending. Think about what you want and wait on getting things. Don't buy on credit. Save up for the items you want. Many times the feel of urgency will pass.

Absoultely no credit cards. Buy nothing unless I have the cash for it. Know what you need and don't need. It is as simple as just saying "no." Same as drugs.

Well, disregard what is "in", what is useless. Ignore advertisements.
What I do is : I usually try to make my own things than buy it, or buy it used (This usually goes for my "wants".)
