tore evrything apart, and the coolant seems to flow into the heater core from both heater hoses. This seems strange to me, shouldn't one be flowing into the core and one out? I can hook a garden hose to the heater core and water flows ok. Could I have the wrong water pump?

The water pump is only an issue if you have recently replaced it. then it is possible it is wrong but your vehicle would be overheating as well. Does your air get warm if you start it up and let it sit in the drive way for about 10min. if it does then it is a possible thermostat hung open. if your vehicle does not overheat and the air does not get warm sitting in the drive way then i would look at the flap in the heater assembly that switches from hot to cold. you could have a motor bad that operates the flap. with the key on and engine off turn your air from hot to cold and see if you can hear something running under the passenger side dash. usually you can hear this motor or hear the flap move back and forth.

i doubt that you would have a wrong water pump on it,that's unusual that its doing that normally your right the coolant flows in one way and out the other, you shouldn't have it pumping both ways, make sure the hoses are in the right place, the only other thing that could cause it if the blades on the water pump was turned wrong, and i have never ever seen that happen, you just have to check until you find that one,you can try another water pump just so you can rule that part of it out,i think i would at this point, you have nothing to loose but a little time, good luck with it.

what i can tell you from experience i use to owe a taurus without ac so only thing to warm up the inside of it was the heater system during cold days, but that was the ironic part, first off*****sounds like you don't have a thermostat even worse if you got a V8 trust me it will not heat up water that quick and if its real cold outside youll turn the heater and will get only cold air flowing out, eventually will warm, but if youre unpatient you'll say its something wrong which in reality it is because youre cooling system its not doing its job on cooling the engine, but you wont notice the gauge go up either, rule out the waterpump but not the connections to it....lastly like they mention disconnect and reconect the color pipes underneath youre dash and listen for a vacum sound if you do rule the inside out, but do be more affirmative with oure vehicle

start up off by making use of checking your radiator coolant point make optimistic it is finished because of the fact the coolant is what heats your heater air, additionally a caught or defective thermostat could desire to reason no warmth, examine the two heater hoses that run to the firewall into the vehicle with the vehicle working and at typical working temp they could desire to be warm to touch make optimistic to no longer get burned, in the event that they are chilly or if one is chilly your hose or heater center could have a clog, disconnect the hoses and flush the hoses and the heater center with water from a backyard hose to eliminate any clogs additionally if your radiator coolant seems grimy or rusty drain and flush it then fill up. i'm hoping this facilitates.
