I have a test soon and I don't get it... Can you help me?
I have a couple questions i don't know how to solve... I tried for hours and hours and i still don't get it.. Can u solve it and show your work, so i can figure out how to solve it or explain how to solve it?
3(w+2) = 2(w-1)
6y + 7 = 3 + 2(y-4)
5x - 8x = 3(x+4)
5t - 3t = 5 - 3(t+5)
Thx.

Sure . . .

3(w+2) = 2(w-1)

distribute:

3w + 6 = 2w - 2

subtract 2w and subtract 6 from both sides:

3w - 2w = -2 - 6

w = -8

done!

6y + 7 = 3 + 2(y-4), distribute first
6y + 7 = 3 + 2y -8, variable on the left, constants on the right
6y-2y = 3 - 8 - 7
4y = -12, divide by 4 on both sides
y = -3
done!

5x - 8x = 3(x+4)
-3x = 3x + 12
-6x = 12
x = -2
done!

5t - 3t = 5 - 3(t + 5)
2t = 5 -3t -15
5t = - 10
t = -2
done!

hope you understand and do well on your test!!!

1) 3(w+2)= 2(w-1)
*distribute (watch out for negatives)* 3w+6= 2w-2
*simplify* w=-8

2) 6y+7=3+2(y-4)
*distribute* 6y+7= 3+ 2y-8
*simplify* 4y +7 = -5
4y= -12
y=-3

3) 5x-8x= 3(x+4)
5x-8x= 3x+ 12
-3x= 3x+12
-6x= 12
x= -2

4) 5t-3t = 5 -3(t+5)
2t= 5 -3t -15
5t=-10

hope this helps! I'm not positive if my answers are fully correct. I checked over them, and they look fine, but just check over it again incase I didn't see something. if you have any more questions, just ask! :)

a) 3(w+2) = 2(w-1)
Distribute 3 and 2 to (w+2) and (w-1) respectively. You will get 3(w) + 3(2) = 2(w) - 2(1).
3w + 6 = 2w - 2
Combining like terms, 3w - 2w = -2 + (-6)
w = -8

b) 6y + 7 = 3 + 2(y-4)
Distribute again: 6y + 7 = 3 + 2(y) + 2(-4)
6y + 7 = 3 + 2y + (-8)
Combining like terms, 6y - 2y = 3 - 8 + (-7)
4y = 3 - 15
4y = -12
Dividing both sides by 4, y = -3

c) 5x - 8x = 3 (x+4)
5x - 8x = 3x + 12
5x - 8x - 3x = 12
5x - 11x = 12
-6x = 12
x = -2

d) 5t - 3t = 5 - 3 (t+5)
5t - 3t = 5 + (-3)(t) + (-3)(5)
5t - 3t = 5 - 3t - 15
5t - 3t + 3t = 5 - 15
5t = -10
t = -2

3(w+2)=2(w-1)
multiply both sides....
3w+6=2w-2
subtract the 6 on both sides....
3w+6=2w-2
-6 -6
3w=2w-8 subtract 2w from both sides
-2w -2w
w= -8
same idea with rest of the problems....you got to get the alike factors (i think that's the word) seperated on each side so you can solve for y or t or whatever the case may be.
6y+7=3+2(y-4) <---multiply the 2 with the (y-4)
6y+7=3+2y-8 (subtract the 3 from both sides)
-3 -3
6y+4=2y-8 (add 8 to both sides)
+8 +8
6y+12=2y (subtract 6y from both sides)
-6y -6y
12= -4y (divide both sides by -4)
-3=y
5x-8x=3(x+4) (subtract the 5x from 8x, multiply 3 with (x=4)
-3x=3x+12 add 3x to both sides
0x=12....so i think this one is "undefined"....i might be wrong on the term....it's been a while, i'm kind of rusty.
5t-3t=5-3(t+5)
2t=5-3t+5 (add 3t to both sides)
5t=5-5
5t=0
t=0
i hope this helped....sorry if my terms are a little off, like i said, it's been a while.

3(w+2) = 2(w-1)
3w + 6 = 2w - 2 (distribution)
w + 6 = -2 (-2w)
w = -8 (-6)

6y + 7 = 3 + 2y - 8
6y + 7 = 2y - 5 (simplify)
4y +7 = -5 ( -2y)
4y = -12 (-7)
y = -3 (divide by 4)

-3x = 3x + 12
-6x = 12
x = -2

2t = 5 - 3t - 15
2t = -3t - 10
5t = -10
5 = -2

First, multiply the [ 3 ] by each [ #/ variable ] in parenthesis. Then do the same for [ 2 ] on the right side of the [ = ] sign.
So. 3w + 6 = 2w -1
Then get the [ #s ] on one side, so subtrac [ 6 ] from [ -1 ]
3w = 2w -7
Get the [ w's ] on one side, so subtract [ 2w ] from [ 3w ]
w = -7
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On the right side of the [ = ] sign, multiply 2 by each [ #/variable ] in parenthesis.

6y + 7 = 3 + 2y -8.
Then add like terms on the right side.
6y + 7 = 2y - 5
Then move the #s on one side. So subtract 7 from [ -5 ]
6y = 2y - 12
Then get the [ y's ] on one side; so subtract 2y from 6y.
4y = -12.
Divide both sides by [ 4 ] to get [ y ] by itself.

So y = -3.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Use the same process above to answer the remaing.
The remaining answers are:
-3x = 3x +12 which = -9x = 12 ------>[ -3/4 ]

2t = 2t + 10 =[ 0 ]
