I've had many similar experiences. I think it all boils down to what someone above me said -- "They just don't care". They get paid the same amount to do their job poorly as they do when they do it correctly. I feel for the managers. Finding responsible employees that are willing to work fast food has got to be a challenge -- especially when high school is in session.

The problem is very simple. Management does not train, supervise and discipline employees as a rule. Like others have said, if the manager is doing their job, the employees will be working. If the manager is not that good, the employees will screw off.
I would not say that the employees are lazy as much as I would say they lack a work ethic! They seem to think that they do not have to work hard, or care about the customers.
I have seen fast food restaurants where the service and employees were well below a satisfactory level. A new manager comes in and lays down the law! Some of the employees will be gone, and replaced, and some will do the job that they are expected to do!.
If you get less than satisfactory food and service at a fast food place, speak to the manager. If the problem is not solved (in the case of the burgers without meat or cheese, the food should be remade and the cost of the meal refunded, with an apology), contact the regional or national corporate office!
Employees need to learn that work time is time to work! If you have time to lean, you have time to clean!!!

Sometimes the person who takes the order types it in wrong, so it is made wrong. Sometimes, the grill person is not reading carefully, because we have to go really fast, like 20 seconds per order usually, and so things can get screwed up, especially when you are doing this all day long. Sometimes if we have to re-make an order, we have more than one person telling us how it should be and we might get confused and annoyed. Sometimes, we don't care, lol. But, most of all (something all customers will disagree on) that they customer actually will say it one way, but then change their mind saying they said it another way. (As a McDonald's employee, THAT last one irritates the heck out of me!)
Most people are only working in fast food a short time, because they can't handle it (too fast paced), so just be patient; there are always new people working and it can be stressful. As for me, sometimes I do make a mistake, cause I am human. Think about it this way, I will make one mistake for every 100 cars, that is pretty good, if you think about it. YOUR order just happened to be the one that f-ed up, lol.

No, fast food employees are not lazy. In every type of industry there are mistakes. It just seems like everyone likes to pick on the fast food industry because the perception is that if you work in fast food you must be stupid and uneducated and any moron should be able to do the job. Just because the pay is not great does not mean any moron can do it. If that were so why do so many people get fired. Unfortunately, there are stupid, lazy and uneducated people in all walks of life. There are also people that are intolerant, small-minded and have a holier-than-thou attitude.
Sorry about the rant, but I get real tired of people saying that fast food employees are lazy and that anyone can do that job. It does not matter what job you have, no one is any better than anyone else and everyone makes mistakes.

If you go there all the time, well maybe they have some thing against you. I know once I got a burger with nothing on it. But some people like it that way. Maybe that employee just finished emptying the trash or cleaning the restroom and didn't have time to wash their hands, so they did not want to touch the meat, cheese and bacon. We all have bad times at fast food places but then its cheap, fast and someone else cooked it. You get what you pay for.............

No! I worked in two fast food places for years and I can say that not all fast food employees are lazy. Like any industry, there are good workers and bad workers.
Fast food places are really fast paced and that people work very hard at them.

it really depends on the night you go. sometimes you can get a really good person who is really efficient at everything. see, i work at a boston market, and some nights, we have a bad "carver" or person who makes our sandwiches and puts the meat on the plate. its not the person who takes your order's fault. maybe it is if they put in your order wrong but if they put it in right, its all up to the people that cook the food and are in charge of packaging it that are at fault. so its not always the cashier's fault. even if they do enter your order right in the computer, its pretty much all up to the person who makes the food.

I think it has a lot of do with the fact, as to what manager is on duty. We live near a Wendy's and when the regular manager is on duty, she runs a tight ship, but we have been there, when we have problems. And we visited on in another town recently and the girl actually threw the food at my husband. One of her co-workers gave her a dirty look, but we stopped there again, just yesterday, she was still there. But I am inclined to agree with you. Someone needs to remind them, that if they are going to do a job, do it right the first time.

so sharpie. you think fast food workers are lazy..what is it you do for a living...stuff never happens at your job that cause you to make a mistake..i have worked fast food for 7 years and i make pretty good money doing it..it is a very fast paced job and takes a lot to do it..can you get a 120 cars in the the drive thru in an hour....can you run a million dollar business and be perfect..so i dont think you should critisize all fast food employees because someone made a mistak..some of them are a little brain dead put that doesnt mean that all of us are..so you really shouldnt generalize..just because you are mad..you should watch your comments...it is not a an any more can do this...if this is the kind of attitude you have..i seriously doubt you could do it.

You...
You simply suck at life.
Some fast food employees are lazy, some are not. I worked food service for years making between 6 and 9 / hr (varied). I work in a technical position now, but the amount of work I had to do in food service far outweighs the amount of work I have to do now (and I am hardly lazy).
If all they had to do was make your burger, then yeah, the job would be cake. Since you're unaware that there's more to it than that, I'm going to assume that you are completely oblivious about the world around you and simply enjoy your addiction to service.
In short, get it your own damn self.
