I know turtles can grow really big. So what size should my turtle's tank be if I don't want to have to get a new one later? I think the tank right now is about 30 gallons but its only half full of water. Is that good enough? Or will it have to be bigger later? Thanks for the help again! :)

ps I have a red-eared slider turtle

It depends if the turtle is male or female. Unless it was temp sexed while incubating, you won't be able to tell until the turtle is about 4 inches long. If the turtle is male, you will need a minimum 75 gallon tank. If the turtle is female, you should provide at least 125 gallons, as females get much larger than males. A good place to get cheaper but good quality aquariums is www.glasscages.com. Also you can check on craigslist and see if anyone is selling a used tank, you might find one at a good price there.

The larger the better. A RES that is properly cared for can grow to 8 inches long or more and would need at least a 75 gallon tank. The rule is 10gal per inch of shell length.

Usually for RES turtles you need ten gallons for every inch of shell. Your RES can grow extremely fast, and outgrow your tank, so my suggestion is to plan on getting a large tank. A great website to check out is http://www.redearslider.com/index.html. They have so much information about RES turtles.

That explains the size of tank, as well as the land-to-water ratio that would best suit that kind of turtle.
