"Chicks with *****" is probably not going to go over well in mixed company.

First of all , you need to know the difference between transsexuals and transgender people. This is an open question to which I have posted an answer at the hyperlink pasted below:

For transsexuals, there is no acceptable slang term.

Transsexualism is a recognized physiological medical condition called (Harry Benjamin Syndrome) where the area of the brain (Bst Area) located in the hypothalumus of the brain is sized that of the opposite sex. This condition occours during the second half of the first trimester prenatally. It is classified as an intersexed condition along with hermaphrodism and chromosonal sex ambiguity.

As with any other physical condition or disability, there just aren't any socially acceptable slang terms for it. People do not like to be socially identified with medical conditions regardless of whether proper or slangs terms are used.

I do not know of any acceptable slang terms for transgender people. There are so many types of transgender people and the proper terms for each type of transgender person are frequently changing. I cannot give you an answer for that one.

Call someone a "chick with a dick" and you're likely to get hit, and you will deserve it.

Ditto for "shemale." It's a term that originated in exploitative pornography, and is roughly analagous to "whore."

"Tranny" is also derogatory. Some people use the term ironically to refer to themselves, but this is similar to women who refer to themselves as "bitches" or gay people calling themselves "fags." Generally speaking, if you aren't trans, don't use this word.

Good terms to know:

"Trans." Just "trans," no suffix. It's a fairly safe word, it avoids any specifics, and doesn't have too many negative connotations.

Trans woman - someone who identifies as a woman, who was born XY. They may or may not look like what you imagine a woman to look like.

Trans man - see above, but for men born XX.

Trans feminine - broader than the above terms. Includes people who may not completely or solely identify as/with women, but for whom "men/male" is an inaccurate or incomplete description of their identity.

Trans masculine - ditto, but going the other way.

Drag Queen/Drag King - generally denotes someone for whom gender variance is part of performance art. Use with caution when you're not talking about someone who literally performs on stage. Also, keep in mind that many people who do gender-related performance art on stage are also trans in other ways and may or may not self-ID as queens/kings.

And as a general rule, don't assume anything. Don't try and take any of the above terms and apply them to people spontaneously. They might give you an idea of what you might expect, but if you want to know what terms to use with regards to a particular person, ask them.

And for the love of god, *get pronouns right.* If you aren't sure what pronouns a person prefers, ask. Better to ask than to assume and get it wrong. Whatever they tell you, *use it,* even if it is confusing or doesn't make sense to you. This includes gender neutral pronouns (e.g., sie/zie, or em/eir). If you are trying but slip ocassionally and use a wrong pronoun, apologize quickly, and just keep on with the conversation, and try harder not to f*ck up again.

Usually if she has a dick... she's a transvestite and not a transexual.
