Various social outings never work even while being extroverted. The people I try to talk to always end up flaky so a social life isn't for me. How can I rid of lonely feelings and just focus on studying?

If you are away from home for college, I think it is important to maintain a good social circle. Not that this has to be a huge group of people, but a group of people you can COUNT ON to be there when you need them, want to get out for a breather or hang out with. Sounds like the current "social cirlce" isn't working for whatever reason....there are always "more fish in the sea..." though.

Trying to avoid social activities or groups because it hasn't worked out thus far I think will only enhance feelings of lonliness. And.....the BIG AND.....studying all the time sure will not help that either. Plus, focusing on just one thing is not healthy either.

Why does the movie "The Shining" come to mind: "All work and no play makes Johnny a dull boy...." or something like that.

Find a group of people who follow through. They are bound to be out there.

What will happen if you don't study? Do you want to work some dead-end low paying job? You won't get any kind of social - life that way. At least, not one that you would want.

Thus, YOU and only YOU can make the choice for yourself. If you do not stay focused on graduation, then the chances are that you won't graduate. College only gets tougher higher up. Life is even more tough.

Remember that there will be PLENTY of time for social crap and getting sex after you get out of school.

It's up to you to be determined to do well in your studies. College is a lot of work, and many do not have the time for all the partying associated with it.

Just keep thinking to yourself which will help you in your future--studying, or partying?

Try to take some electives that truly interest you, and you may find new people who are much better for you to be around. Good luck.
