anything BELOW 1996 will not have you going to the dealer EVERYTIME the stupid check engine light comes on.

VW diesels get 50mpg, last FOREVER and they have been making them for the last 30 years!

I drive a 1986 Plymouth reliant, didnt come with A/C and is simple and cheap to fix IF anything would ever break down on it, and I got it and the last car for FREE!

Where are you?

How much do you want to spend?

Can you finance? do you want to pay cash?

Kia Rio is a good cheap 4 cyl car if you buy it brand new.

Used car, then look at Toyota corolla, Camry.
Nissan Sentra, altima
Honda Accord ( I would stay away from the Civic for most of those are own by teen driver and they don't take care of the car)

Some Hyundai are good to if you in the tight butget

Check out Toyota and Honda, maybe Mazda.

Toyotas and Hondas are fairly good on gas milage, though they have slipped in that regard in my opinion. I have an old 1985 Accord that can pull 28 miles to the gallon city, 42 highway without cruise control, stick shift. My old CRX was doing 50 miles to the gallon highway though for whatever reason I could only get 24 miles to the gallon city out of it, also stick shift.
