Yes, it is possible. Although it is even more likely the algae eater died first and the goldfish ate the evidence.

Yes, goldfish have a simple rule, if it fits in their mouth it might be food. They are not really agressive and dont usually attack medium size fish, but fry or other small fish, GULP. Small goldfish can probably live OK with platies, but it's not ideal. Also as the goldfish grows the 'fit in mouth' rule may come into effect. Ian

Goldfish are opportunistic feeders. In the wild, they eat plant matter, crustaceans, and insects, not other fish. In a tank they like to eat flake or pellet food, but they also love treats of fresh veggies like green peas and lettuce and occasionally dried shrimp.
In captivity a problem with them eating other fish is a lot more likely behavioral and related to the enviroment- i.e. too many fish in too small of a space, fish are not enough plants or hiding spaces, poor choices in tank mates, poor husbandry resulting in sick/dead fish which are going to be viewed as food.
btw- A common misconception that goldfish only have a three second memory has been proven completely false (Busted on the show Mythbusters)

Some bottom feeding fish burrow into the substrate. Loaches are such a fish. However, it is possible that your goldfish ate the algae eater. Goldfish will eat anything they can get in their mouth! Its also quite possible that your algae eater jumped out of the tank! If you don't have a fitted lid on your tank, that is another possibility.

Goldfish will eat practically anything, including small fish. If your Algae Eater was small enough to comfortably fit into the Goldfish's mouth, it is very possible that is where it went.

Did you check the substrate. Maybe it has just dig in the substrate and buried itself. Don't worry, your goldfish did not eat the algae eater.

no goldfish dont eat other fish. the cleaner fish might have been taken out of the tank by a cat or baby or it could have jumped out of the tank and escaped. or it disappeared into the unknown. well never know.........
