Authorities won't do anything about your gut feeling, but they will listen to facts. But keep in mind that just because you didn't see a bloody knife or see the killer or anything like that, doesn't make anything you DO know invalid. Think hard and see if there's anything -- ANYTHING -- backing up your gut. What may seem insignificant to you may actually be huge in helping authorities if your gut feeling turns out to be true. As the above answerer said, write down everything you feel and remember and continue to do so as things come to you. You may be able to connect the dots easier this way if things are sorted out on paper.

I would write everything down on paper. What you suspect, why you have those suspicions, anything you may have seen or heard, etc.

That may come in handy in the future, when your mind may forget some of the details. I hope that you are wrong...but I've had gut feelings that turned out to be true.

With a gut feeling you can't prove anything...you still need facts,
you can follow your gut feelings & trace facts or evidence.
The police won't or can't do anything without proof, evidence & actual data.

I think that if all I have is speculation, and nothing to really back it up, I might stay silent until the person is missing for a while. Or is the person already dead, and you think there was foulplay? Actually, can you give a little more info?

Cases are not decided based on gut feeling. I would keep it to myself.

Contact the police and offer them the information. They might be overworked or just plain apathetic. They may dismiss your call without a report.

Happened to me one time when I was trying to offer (what I thought was) valid information about a kidnapping case. It's a cruel world.
