Cost of living is not much different than any major metro-plex in the country. We have no sales tax, and no state income tax, which tends to balance the budget so to speak. As far as housing, again not much different than any big city.
The cost will obviously vary depending on where in Alaska you decide to live. Check it out!

It depends on WHERE in Alaska. In much of Alaska gasoline is over $5.00/gallon and a single cantelope costs $9.00. I can understand the cantelope but why does gas cost so much when we're an oil exporting state? In and around Anchorage everything is much cheaper. But if you average it all out, living in Alaska costs roughly the same as living in Boston (where a single parking space recently sold for over $600,000.00), which in 2007 was rated as the most expensive city in the United States, beating out San Francisco, NYC, and LA.

Cheaper by far than Northern Virginia, alot more expensive than El Paso.
But no sales tax on most items, and no income tax. Wages tend to be higher than you would find in most parts of the country. And you can find a job. Help wanted signs in every store window, and most of the bigger businesses are hiring. I
