What is a nice lawn hedge? We have some bushes/hedges in the front yard in front of our windows but they are very woody (lots of stems and braches and little leaves) and they grow so fast we have to cut them back every fews weeks. We would like something more attractive that would appeal the curb value of our home. We live in Austin TX. Thanks for all suggestions!

Here is a site with a few to look at and to read about. You can decide if they would be appropriate to grow in your hardiness zone, which Iam guessing to be either 9 or10 in the Austin area. Hope this helps.

Added Info: .... Keep in mind that all of the above hedges can be kept at the desired height with pruning. Just because it says "grows to 10 feet", doesn't mean that it can't be alot shorter.

I've seen some very nice hedges made from holly. Keep in mind that I don't know what grows well where you live. You might get some helpful information on planting zones from www.arborday.com. And consult your local nurseries.

Good luck!

Hibiscus. There are two types.....Hardy hibiscus and the Tropical hibiscus.

My two favorites (Dallas area):

Hibiscus 'Lord Baltimore' stands 4 to 5 feet tall with 10-inch-broad red flowers.

'Robert Fleming' has crinkled leaves with red veins, matching its red flowers.

Keep going down the screen for a pink hibiscus.

Boxwoods would work in Austin. They stay small and have tiny leaves
