A virus is killing my computer and while i was using AVG to clean it up, it shut off on me. So when I powered it back up, it asked for me to log on and for a password which I never used before. Does anybody know how to get around that?

Suggest you go into Safe Mode to run your antivirus software. This way, Windows will not be loaded and you can catch self-executable files.

When you exit Safe Mode, Restart.
Your desktop icons may be out of order. No biggee - just drag them back.

See if you are still being asked for a password.
If you are, go back into Safe Mode and see if you can get into Users, in the Control Panel, and change how users log on.

Here is information on Safe Mode:
Restart your computer to get to Safe Mode:
>>>As soon as you see the system trying to load (it will probably be black and white)
>>>and before Windows tries to load,
>>>press and hold the F8 key.
>>>Continue holding it down until you see a black and white DOS menu. I think Safe Mode is F3.
Now run your antivirus software.

Try booting in Safe Mode by continually pressing the F8 key during the boot sequence. Now run your antivirus & antispyware.

on login screen, alt+ctrl+del twice and then blank out username, put administrator and leave password blank.

If that doesnt work, youve been hacked and you need to slave your harddrive to a computer with AVG antivirus and do a scan, then try the above again.

Scan your computer in safe mode, and if that doesn't help, just reinstall the hard drive.

try and get into windows in safe mode "by pressing f8 before the loading screen and welcome / login screen" or just keep pressing F8 when you turn on your computer. you may be able to sort it out in safe mode..

faliing that, you will have to format your computer and remove all data that you have stored on there.
