Aside from saying simply that moose is the designated plural of moose because that's the way the English language has accepted, my suggestion is for the reason of avoiding a CONFUSION as one the reason when the word was assigned with its plural form.

Goose , moose - pretty similar so if dealt with fairly: the plural of goose is geese, so supposed to be moose will be for meese .

MEESE, sounds to have some sort of confusion that someone can possibly relate it to MOUSE which actually has MICE as its plural. What do you think?

Now, if a rule will be made stating that all nouns with similar spelling structure should have their plural forms in the same spelling as well......then would that imply that as MICE is to MOUSE so therefore HICE is to HOUSE?

Sounds odd isn't it? That simply means "irregular" nouns can have their plurals formed differently and some words can always be an exception to the rule. The plural form accepted by the language is the one considered as correct.
