In all the other Div 1 college sports there's a playoff. Basketball has it's final 4 turnament, there's one in baseball too. And there's a playoff in the lower divisions of college football, why not Div I? I frankly don't care if my team wins it's cofference and goes to a bowl game and wins that. That's not important to me. I don't like my team getting voting on by other coaches and the media. I want them to qualify for a turnament, maybe not 64 like basketball but maybe 15 to 25 and the last team standing wins period, national champion. No quesions or debate. No need to vote.

There is a playoff in Div IA football. It's called the regular season, and it's double elimination. Lose twice and you're out of the championship running. "Real" playoffs wouldn't solve anything. If there was a 8 team playoff, some idiots would be crying about the 1-loss 9th ranked team that got snubbed in favor of the 8th ranked 2-loss team. It would be a bigger mess.

Several reasons.

Those players are students, not professionals. You can't play football every day like baseball/basketball so a football playoff of any size would adds weeks/months to the season.

Every record would be broken in the first season of the playoffs. An extra 3-4 games would virtually guarantee every season record would be broken in the first year. Sure, you could have a separate system for records, but that'd just be annoying.

Playoffs lessen the importance of regular season games. Part of the what makes NCAA football great is that every game, every play, everything matters. In a playoff system you can give up some games so long as you can still get into the playoffs.

Money? How is NOT playing MORE games selling MORE tickets and advertising financially motivated?

No questions? But there would be. Say the final game came down to an undefeated team and one that lost 3 games in the regular season and the later won by the narrowest of margin. Sure on that particular day they were a better team, but wouldn't

Because of people like Jim Delaney, commissioner of the Big Ten, who's probably crying his eyes out right now since the top two teams in his pathetic conference just got punked.

Because we already see SEC teams play all season long, who outside the conference can beat them?
