That would be difficult to predict. The interstate highways are seldom closed and are very well maintained during the winter months.I would suggest that you keep your eye on the weather along your proposed route(s)through the weather channel on TV or one of the many weather advisory web sights such as the one below.I would just pick the most direct route.Have a great trip!

I would respectfully disagree with the first poster.I have lived in Utah and Colorado for the past 10 years and I've "never" had to put chains on my vehicle. If you already have chains, bring them with you. If you don't, don't buy any as you may purchase them in any big box or auto parts store along the way if the weather turns really bad.Late January or February might be different, but the first week of December is not something I would worry about...besides there is a system in place on all the the major roads that alerts you to any snow/weather advisories ahead of you so you will have ample opportunity to stop and buy chains if you feel you need to...Smaller, rural secondary roads can be an exception.

Park city is stunning. countless the trendier restuarants and resorts could be slightly costly yet typical it is nevertheless incredibly actual looking. no longer something like Aspen or something. Plus in case you're keen to make the holiday you are able to alwayschronic over to Salt Lake city for some stable foodstuff. Be waiting for a robust time inspite of the shown fact that. the only ingredient i will say approximately Park city inspite of the fact it is that the locals are freakin stable!! They have been killing the terrain park the final time i grew to become into there, doing the form of property you ussually see on movies.

Where in Northern CA.? SF or farther north? I can give you a good map if you specify a little more.

Also, just as a tip.. Join the AAA Auto club. It will take all the questions out of your trip and provide security and great discounts at almost any place you stop. Just show your AAA card and you will be amazed how many places will cut your price! And... you will never have to go to the DMV again!
here is a map from SF to Park City. Hope it helps.
