I've seen this question alot but what do you think of babies getting their ears pierced? With my 4 teens (boys and girls) they got their's pierced at 1 but i'm planning on getting my month old babies (2 boys 2 girls) ears done as soon as they're old enough. The youngest I've heard of is 3 months but if they can get it done younger, let me know.

My 2 teen sons have it done and it looks nice, not tough at all, kind of like David Beckham. It looks very cute on baby boys aswell as girls.

I got mine done when I was 2, my mother didn't tell me and I remember hating the pain but my mum made me do get it done. That's why I think that if I get it done when they're babies they'll forget it.

i'm 27 and had mine done when i was 1, i have 4 children,my eldest girl who is now 12 had hers done at 4mths,she cried a little bit,but as soon as we came out the shop, she was asleep, she can still wear earrings, my 8yr old son had his done at 1, he can now still wear earrings, my 6yr old daughter had hers done at 4yrs old,her ears have now healed up because she's scared of the pain. and i now have a 22mth old son and oh how i wish i'd had his ear done already, my younger sister who is now 15 had her ears pierced for the first time when she was 7,and had the same hole pierced 6 times, because she always let them heal over, now she has 4 piercings in her ears, i say the earlier, the better, that way the earrings are definately going to be in longer than 6wks,and less chance of healing over, but the earliest in my area is 4mths, good luck and congrats on your quads.people who say dont get them done get on my nerves because i have heard a lot of people say "you werent born with holes in your ears,so you dont need them" and so many times i say "we werent born wearing clothes, but you wouldnt allow your child out without any would you?"

Wait until your babies are at least 18 - 24 months old. As a boy I had always wished and still do wish that my parents had my ears pierced when I was very young. This would have been during the eighties when boys were starting to pierce their ears. I can remember when I was about 9 or 10 years old and I saw other boys particularly at the beach with earings how jealous I was. I can also remember back in the eighties, some young boys who had their ears pierced on the instruction of their parents. Most of the other guys at school admired them. I know that this means nothing today, but for a young boy to 'fit in' with other boys at school is very important. It would have been so much easier if my parents had done this for me. As a shy person it would have just been more natural. I would have also been 'in' with the guys at school who had pierced ears. I just know that I would have thanked my parents for doing it. If I did at any stage no longer want earings, then it would have been as simple as taking them out..

If I get my way, I will convince my girlfriends 6 year son to let us pierce his ears. I think that ear rings on boys look quite good. We need to move away from the "only girls wear ear rings'" or "ear rings are for gays" type of thinking - in fact, earings now have nothing to do with one's sexual orientation. Ear piercings also heal better when done at a younger age.

Hello :)

I have a few things to say about this topic. First off, I have a 3 month old baby girl with peirced ears. I did a lot of research on this subject before I decided to go ahead with it.

I found out a few things. If you get their ears done at an early age, they do not recall the pain. The pain only lasts a few seconds and can be minimized by doing a few things. The best way to mimize the pain is to allow them to suck on something as they are getting their ears done. A pacifier, or breastfeeding while having it done can be great. My little one just sucked on my finger as she hates a pacifier. If people comment on the "cruelty" of having it done, I laugh. There are many people that choose to have their boys circumsized. How is this any different? That pain is much worse and they have no problem justifying that.

Secondly, DO NOT have their ears done at a place that uses ear guns!! There are many reasons for this. The gun can get stuck (that would be HORRIBLE)... it hurts MORE... and it can never be sterilized properly. This means if someone comes in right before that had Hep C... you babies run a chance of contracting it. This is also the reason that most places will not peirce before a baby's first or second shots.

We had our babies ears done by a professional peircer that specializes in baby peircings. It was done with NEW CLEAN needles. Doctors can also do this in their offices if they feel comfortable doing so.

Thirdly, make sure you use the right jewellry in their ears. You must use GOOD metals. Idealy titanium is the best as it's what is used in surgical procedures being that it's the most compatible to human flesh. 24 carat gold is also good. Please put in hoops in the babies ears (tiny ones that pinkie fingers cannot fit between). Hoops can move and therefore minimize the chances for infection. The studs can actually imbed themselves into the back of a baby's head. My doctor had to pull one out of a baby once.

If you are responsible and careful and do everything to ensure that the procedure is being done properly, there is no age that is right or wrong to have it done. There are babies as young as 1 week old that go to the place I had her ears done. One major advantage is that the younger the baby is... the less they will play with or tug at their ears. My daughter didn't even notice they were there. There is less chance of infection when they aren't getting touched. A 7 or 8 year old is MUCH more likely to play with ears and irritate them.

The pain my daughter felt was LESS then the shots for her immunization. It was LESS than the blood test that she had to have. I had my ears peirced when I was a lot older and I sure wish my mom had had mine done when I couldn't remember it.

Good luck and if you have any other questions about my experience... feel free to ask :)

All the best!

I strongly disagree with piercing a baby's ears. Piercing a baby's ears is for the mother's pleasure only. It's your daughter's body and she should have the right to decide for herself whether or not she wants it done. As for the argument, "They'll want it done later," what's so wrong about waiting until later? I chose to have my ears pierced when I was 13 and have fond memories of going with my mother to get it done and picking out some cute earrings afterwards.

2 months is the youngest. My Dr told me that. That's when I'm getting my baby girl's ears pierced after she's born. I think baby girls look so cute with earrings. I asked a similar question like a week ago. Ur goin to have a lot of bad talk from people on here for piercing ur baby's ears at such a young age, but it's ur baby, NOT THEIRS. Most will say wait until she's old enough to ask for them, but y wait??? She'll be in less pain as a baby & she can always take them out if she don't like them when she's older. Good luck!! =)

I have heard that some one got their month old baby done. you should go to the place you want to get them pierced at and ask. I dont personally agree with babies getting ears pierced i have a 2yr old girl and 12 week old boy and i would rather wait till theyre old enough to decide themselves. Would you like it if some one pierced your ears without asking you first?

It was very normal in my family to have a baby girls ears pierced at a young age. Back then it could be done only at a Dr.'s office. If a baby's ears are pierced at a very young age there is less of a chance that the baby will be able to pull on her ear and mess with it. You have quads? WOW!
Go for it!

I had my daughters ears pierced at 2 1/2 weeks old. Her pediatrician said as long as she was at least 2 weeks. She didnt even cry. She is now 3 yrs old and has not had a problem with them.

well, I don't know where you live but here in my area you can't get them done any earlier than 6 months old. When I was younger they didn't have this rule and I had them done at 2 weeks old, and slept through it. As far as the boys go, I don't want to put you down in any way, but you may want to wait until they are old enough to decide.

I think 3-4 months is good. I have a daughter and I'm going to do hers when she turns 4 months. There is nothing wrong with piercing babies ears. I mean come on its not like its a tattoo or something horrible!!
Good Luck!
