Not just no, but Hell No! College is preparation for a career. Public service is exactly that--service. Actually, I believe that if we required that elected officials be anyone other than lawyers that most of our national problems would disappear, and lawyers are vastly over-educated. Barring lawyers from public service would be the ultimate public service.

A college degree is nice - but isn't always of value in public office. For example, what good would a degree in microbiology do for the mayor of a city? None!
The prime requisites are honestly, integrity, common sense and respect for the public - and none of these come from a college degree.

Doesn't matter one way or the other.

College is not an automatic prerequisit for common sense, reliability, honesty, compassion or intelligence.
I support this view myself simply because I have common sense
