I'm sure there is some etiquette to this depending on how well you know someone.

I've wondered this too. I've found numerous friends I haven't talked to in years just because we all went to college or whatever and lost contact. If we were good friends back in the day, I'll send a friend request along with a little message. If they were just an acquaintance and I just basically want to up my friend count (lol), I'll just friend request them.

If someone adds me first and I was good friends with them, I'll either send a message back or write something on their wall. Though I also have people who added me I barely spoke to (we just shared a class or something) and I'll just accept their friend request without sending a message or writing on their wall. I figure maybe they just want to up their friend count too, lol. But yeah, totally depends on how well you knew someone and if you really want to re-connect with people... or just have high friend counts. :p

No, not really. Facebook has already sort of taken care of it. If you add a friend and the person does not want to accept your request, you will not receive any kind of rejection message.

According to the creator of facebook .the site's purpose is to tighten ur relation with people u already knew, not to create new friends,
Don't over invite ur friends to your applications and causes and vampire bite and other FaceBook crap.. it is annoying
