"Mas madaling huliin ang manok na nakatali na." It's a lot easier to nab a chicken already tied down.

Could this be the reason why we sometimes fall for someone who's already taken or spoken for? Comments please.

This is actually a follow-up to Khalan's question.

To be more frank about it, hunnybunz, a lot of men find married women more attractive. Not because they're already tied down to somebody else... it just gives you this sense of accomplishment after getting her and that smell of victory over the guy she's supposed to stick to.
I'm not advocating it, but some men are just born like that.

I'm sorry, milady.

I have never heard of this expression before in my entire life.

And in the backyard where I grew up, chicken and ducks are always roaming free, and I always hated it when Mom or Dad would ask us to capture one for lunch. You'd think it was fun, but it was not. You really have to have good running legs to nab one, and be ready to "Lundagin mo, Baby!" (Go for a dive) when necessary, to have something for lunch.

As to comparing that with humanity's customs (romantic or procreative) , I personally wouldn't know, being just a Grouch. But I find Kahlan's last item, and least in her list, as somehow the most fitting answer.

---- Added: I was wrong. I apologize to Kahlan. I forgot about the rule, "keeping the best for the last". Peace, Kahlan!
And to all of mankind!

No, I haven't. But I don't think this expression has anything to do with going for a committed person. It might mean something else like, it is much easier to do chores when it's all laid down. Or, implement things that has already been carefully planned out. Well, just my view.

i was actually thinking that it's because the good ones are always taken thus we go after those few "good" ones. just kidding. lol. :P my sense of morality just won't let me indulge in such...

these are discussed by me and my girl pals during one of our caffeine-induced "girl talks:"

(1) because older married men treat you like a lady. they are men of this world so they know what will make a woman tick.
(2) it's because of maturity. older, married men are not like guys our age who are immature, insecure and even jealous of a sophisticated young lady's personal achievements.
(3) one succinctly said, "kasi masarap ang bawal" (what is taboo is appealing). this was followed by laughter. hehe!
(4) because the guy is unhappy with his marriage; or
(5) it is just love which is unfortunately at the wrong time.
