For example, one could say they are like malecula in that they suck up water, like the impact humans have made on the Everglades.
This is for an English assignment and I am just lost. Any ideas out there? Thanks!

According to my assignment, I am supposed to make a statement by comparing humans in general to some other animal or plant. We are just startimg to explore poetry, so I'm guessing its supposed to be elegant or flowy as opposed to scientific and profound.

You've really given little info about what you're supposed to write. Are you supposed to do more than one animal and compare it to the same action as a human, or just one animal and all the ways it does things similar to a human or what? If it's more than one animal, pick different animals that , for example, actively bathe (like birds in a bird bath or hamsters that wash their faces with their paws). If it's just one animal and you need to find all the way it's like a human, pick one and go through all of the things you can find that we both do. The internet, of course, will have most anything you'd want to find on a particular animal if you need to.
Of course, the most obvious would be from the great apes or monkeys. There are many interesting comparisons btw humans and these animals. One of the most interesting is amongst chimps and how they tend to be warlike at times.
I see! Thanks for the additional info. It's supposed to be analogous then. I agree with the other writer who mentioned ants and wasps because of their social structure, for one. "Ants are like people as they march around doing their various tasks." Or something like that. I'm sure you could think up something original. Use your imagination!
Good luck.

Actually, there are no animals like humans. We are unique in too many ways. You'd have to argue the opposite--some humans behave like animals. Look at well-known similes for inspiration: Dirty as a pig, sly as a fox, stubborn as a mule, big as a whale, etc. As for the Everglades, there's still plenty of water there despite the depredations made during the first 2 decades of the 20th century. Fortunately for us, the Everglades is stronger than we are. Besides, we never tried to suck up the water in the Everglades. What we did was try to drain it off into the Gulf of Mexico. Here's a cool video about the restoration going on now: http://www.theevergladesstory.org/film/
In 1947, Marjorie Stoneman Douglas published "The Everglades: River of Grass" and the public became aware of the special qualities of wetlands and swamps, realizing they were an essential part of our ecosystem. Another environmentalist, Joe Podger, is quoted as saying "The Everglades is a test. If we pass it, we get to keep the planet."

But... we ARE animals. Just advanced ones. Most of us. It IS so. It is not a fallacy at all. Nothing but slightly higher intelligence separates us from other animals. Not even sentience/self-awareness, which has been demonstrated in dolphins and gorillas. We are part of nature, so by definition, everything we do is natural. It is simply a fact of life. Of course not all behaviors are OK. But you have to define what you mean by "OK." If a behavior includes harming another person, like rape or molestation, we don't permit it. Even in the animal kingdom, if an animal is hurting members of its own species it will be ousted from the pack or herd. But sexual behavior among consensual adults is a matter of personal choice. It does nothing to harm anyone. It IS natural. As someone else pointed out, what you're really trying to say pertains to morals. The problem with this argument is that morals aren't absolute, no matter how much you would like them to be. Morality is subjective. You can be upset and unhappy that other people violate what you consider to me high moral standards, but in reality that's about as much as you have the right to do. In other words, feel however you want about it - but don't expect you will be permitted to interfere without severe consequences.

Probably ants or bees, because both have social structures that other animals do not.
