Is this your first or second? if its your first they will normally try the membrane sweep first. I was induced at 28 weeks with my 2nd and all they do is score you on a sheet (eg if your 2 cm dialated you score 2 and they score other things too) then if you score under 7 they insert a pessary tablet into your cervix which should get things going - if it doesnt they repeat again (no more than twice or 3 times in 24 hours). I found with being induced the contraction come alot quicker than if you went into labour naturally and obviously they will be painful but its over alot quicker and its not that bad.
Hope that helps, all the best. Good luck!

Well it depends on how you want to be induced. Some women are happy to go with whatever the doctor wants to do, others like to have a say in their medical care.

Personally I would discuss all options first with the doc before they do anything.

They might want to hook you up to the IV and give you Pitocin which can bring you into labour fairly quickly and suddenly.

You other option might be the 'Gel' which will start to soften the cervix and then hopefully get your body contracting naturally.
Once it starts they can rupture your membranes (break your waters) which again is more natural and usually easier on the mother to bear painwise.

If that fails then I would go with the IV to speed things up. All things said, it really is up to you how you want it to happen.

I started with the gel and then water breaking and that was enough for me. Baby was born 8 hours later. I didn't have to be hooked up to an IV so I could pace the halls and room comfortably and it reduced the risk of c-section. The more medical intervention you have the higher the risk of it complicating things. That is why I also didn't have an eipdural because it can slow down or stall labour and increase chances of c-section. I wanted as natural a start as possible.

Hope that helps give you some informations as to what may happen after they settle you in and admit you. Some hospitals may also give you the gel first and let you go home for a bit so you can be more relaxed and possibly get some extra shut eye.

Good luck and I hope it all goes well for you

Well what you can expect is to go in, they will start an iv of potosin, then monitor you for a while and checking your progress about every hour. After a certain point they will break your water. After your water is broken things should move very quickly. There is nothing to be worried about all they are trying to do is speed up what would naturally happen. Just make sure that you have some one by your side that is supportive and remember the outcome is much much greater than what you will endure. When you hold your baby for the first time you will forget what it took to get it here!!!

Well I was induced with my first (am 35 weeks pregnant with my second now) so I will tell you what they did with me, althought every induction is different.
I was 11 days late with my daughter, my induction started at 7am. First they gave me a pill (containing prostaglandins to soften my cervix) the pill was inserted into me. They had me lay in bed for an hour then walk for an hour then lay in bed, then walk again. (sounds fun, huh? lol) Eventually my contractions did start but they were very irregular and painful. They broke my water first (long plastic stick with a blade on the end) to try to see if that would regulate my contractions... they got REAL intense after that, but never regular...
By then I asked for a pain reliever (not the epi .. yet) So I has an IV put in (OUCH!) and they gave me a pain killer intravenously, it didnt work, I just felt 'high' and still felt pain, so I asked for my epidural. (yay, lol) Ok, so since my contractions werent regular they decided to give me pitocen to try to help regulate them throught the IV. I believe I got like 2 doses of it and by that time I was 10cm so they just decided to have me push... They took my epidural meds away :( I pushed for about 2 hours and gave birth to a beautiful baby girl (9lbs 3oz, 21 1/2 in.) This whole ordeal lasted from 7am til 2:30am the next morning.
Also I am not sure if this happens during regular labor (I've never experienced it) but they always had me and baby hooked up to a moniter and was constantly checking my blood pressure (especially after I got the epidural)
Well that's about it I think... sorry it's sooo long, but it was a long process.
Good luck! and congratz on your little one :) Remember... no matter what, it's ALL worth it!
(and sorry if I misspelled stuff, the spell check wouldnt work :()
