Some possible opportunities for error (maybe u can update your question with this info):

1) If there are 2 switches that control the light, the wiring may hav gotten reversed.

2) If you wired a ground wire (often green color) to one of the switch's screws, you could have a problem there.

3) Ensure the bulb is screwed in AND not burned out.

4) Ensure that the power is on at the circuit breaker (or fuse box) - - - if you, in fact, HAVE a problem, you may have popped the circuit breaker (or fuse).

From what you wrote, I'm getting the idea that the light can't be turned off - at least the switch can't turn it off. This means that electricity is flowing in a circuit, but the switch isn't doing anything. Either the electricity is flowing in a separate circuit, or the wires aren't separating correctly when you flip the switch. In the first circumstance, the electricity doesn't even go to your switch. Remove your switch, that is, disconnect the wires leading to your switch, and if the light is still on, then you know the problem. Otherwise, reconnect the wires, and see if it works, because the wires might have touched. Try using a different switch if you still can't solve the problem. I think that's all can do for you... hope it helps. :)

You've wired the switch wrong. I'd suggest getting a professional electrician to correct it for you. You've bypassed the switching mechanism in the switch so power continuously flows to the bulb regardless of what you do to the switch. Be careful to cut the power off altogether from the mains if you try fixing this yourself.

Well if you have a light on constant and the switch in the on position isnt causing power failure then you have really got something confusing going on. Suggest an electrician to correct it. Should only take him a few minutes.

The switch interrupts the flow of electricity. It has to be between the source of the electricity and the device you're powering.

The wires go on either end of the switch: white to the gold screw, black to the silver screw.
