I would think little to none, much like freemasons today, why would he? Freemasons have no interest in that sort of thing.

to some other responses:

* freemasons today are not part of any New World Order and are not involved in spying on citizens, etc... I'm not saying no one is doing this but the freemasons certainly aren't; get over the conspiracy theory lies about freemasons

Letters and other correspondence were usually sealed with wax at that time, to indicate if it had been opened by anyone before the intended recipient.

During Benjamin Franklin's time, personal courier was still a very popular method to deliver private messages and letters.
He was appointed by the British Crown and made great progress to bring order and procedure to the postal service - he was dismissed by the Crown at the time of the revolution and appointed by the Continental Congress.

I have no doubt that Ben Franklin had much more important things to do than read other people's mail.

Are you for real? You people will say and do anything to bring contempt upon Freemasonry. Even slander the name of a great patriot.

You should take a lesson from Freemasons and put your time into doing good.

While Brother Franklin was U.S. Post Master and Past Master of his Lodge, many of today's post men are real men and belong to the Masonic Fraternity. As long as our correspondence is being handled by these men of integrity you can be sure of the confidentiality of your letters.

Slim to none. Franklin had much better things to do than read other people's mail; plus he had ethics.

100:1 in reading anything mailed by a politician.

Something tells me he had enough integrity to not read a person's mail.

However, if you think about the people who had to travel from New England to the middle colonies, or all the way to Florida, or even as far as Louisiana, what the hell else could they do to pass their time?

Little to none. But the present day's Freemasons of the New World Order are certainly reading everything you write, so you might want to be more careful.

Edit: It was a joke dude, I'm not one of the crazies.
