Yes, milk can be frozen (and so can cheese and butter.) I live in Canada and we have milk in plastic bags (containing 1.3 litres, or roughly 1 quart -- 3 of those to one larger bag), and the individual bags can be frozen and then thawed later.
For anybody who hasn't seen milk in bags, I am attaching a link with a site and photo ... each of those bags contain 3 smaller bags. It's a very handy way for using only what we want and then freezing the remaining unopened milk.

When the boys were young, we'd buy a few gallons at the commissary and freeze them. Milk never lasted long enough to go bad in our house. Same with bread. There was a Mary Jane outlet nearby and my wife would hit them on Navy pay day and stock up on the bread and pastries and put them in our big freezer. No,the bread was not 'day old'. .. think about it. It's made early a.m. say on Monday, then you buy it Monday afternoon and eat it Tues/Wed/Thurs maybe. By Thurs it's MORE than 'day old.' Freezing the bread and thawing it out makes it seem almost like fresh bread.

I have been freezing my milk like this for a long time. It sure beats running to the store all of the time. And yes I like the fact that I can buy it when it is on sale and stock up on it. What I did not know is that you could only keep it for 3 months. I don't think I have ever kept any that long, but it is good to know. Thanks for the helpful information.

we did this all the time when i was a kid - went to the air base and got month's worth of groceries at the commissary. had to stretch the almighty dollar.
someone asked about this somewhere in the food categories and i actually got best answer for it.
you do have to be sure it is thoroughly thawed before starting to use it though, or it is watery - we always shook the jug every time we used it too

We did this when we had little ones at home...
we also kept powdered milk,
mix powdered milk with regular milk...
half to half..
goes twice as far...
and you really can't tell...
If you have a chest or stand up freezer, keep it full and it will run less often, there for cost less... I freeze jugs of water to fill the empty space... chicken stock too...

Many communities in Alaska get their milk off the ferries in a frozen condition. It comes from the lower 48 and would not keep unless it is frozen.

Yes, I knew that. And, my first husband used to drive semi and haul eggs. They told us the eggs would keep alot longer than the dates on the carton. He would usually get a free case every month which was 24 dozen.I don't have much room in my freezer, so I usually buy powdered milk just in case I need it in the winter.

Yes. I used to do this all the time when my girls were young. I used to freeze the plastic quarts though...the ones that come in the bag. You have to make sure that it thaws completely before using it, otherwise you'll be left with a skim milk popsicle.

I bear in mind the chefs at faculties could have all those frozen turkeys mendacity out on each and all the counters and carts in a single day till now the Thanksgiving dinner. I have no theory how we never appeared to fall ill from that lower back then. My stepmother could make a Mulligan stew and that i swear, it sat on the counter and that they could warmth that up daily till it became long gone and that they did no longer look to fall ill from it. I never ate it, yet I effective bear in mind it lasting 3 days or extra.

Yes, I knew you could freeze milk. My daughter-in-laws freeze it, three jugs at a time. I tasted it once it was thawed & it tasted great. Who knew you could back when we were growing up ?
