I was reading the question about the 12 year old boy whose mom was forcing him to be circumsized and I wondered if my mother could "force" me to have an abortion. I am NOT pregnant but I am sexually active and my mother knows. I use protection everytime. (I know everyone is going to go on about how it isnt 100% effective, I know that, but thanks for the concern anyway). When she found out that I was sexually active, she said that if I was ever pregnant that I wouldnt have a choice, I would definitely get an abortion whether I wanted it or not. I am sure some other people have asked this before but I was wondering, would I actually have a choice in the matter? (I am 16 btw)

Abortions are pyhsically and mentally terrifying experiences. So is having a baby.

I would wait until you got pregnant to really decide. It might never come up. I don't think your mum can legally force you to have an abortion at the age of 16, but then again would you want to have the baby?

You should talk to your mum; even if you don't agree on the matter. Tell her that you either want or don't want to have the baby, and also let her know that at this point, as you are not yet pregnant, you are not yet ready to actually make the decision.

Try to make her understand that you might want an abortion, but at the same time you want to have a say in whether or not that baby is going to be born. It's in your tummy, it's your baby, so it should be your choice.

Why not give the baby up for adoption. Look so many things can happen to you if you get and abortion. My cousin Nicky got one when she way 16 and she is still dealing with the emotional stress of it all at 25. She wakes up in the middle of the night sometimes because she hears babies crying and she has nightmares all the time. It's better for you and the baby to just let it happen, and then give it to another family who will love it and take good care of it. When i was 4 i watched my baby brother die right before my eyes. Seeing that made me understand life is a gift and you should do everything you can to protect it. Abortion isn't the answer for anyone.

I don't think that she has a choice. I would really hope not! Aske her why she didn't have an abortion with you? Its your body and your life she should not have a say in such a huge decsion. Please read about the pros and cons before you ever decide okay! Abortion is cruel and kills innocent babies...anyway I won't go on that subject but just really think hard about it if it ever becomes an issue. You can get on birth control without your moms consent...so I don't see why you coudn't have a child. I would ask a doctor or something because I am not 100% sure, but really think that she has no say. Good luck...and be safe=)

A mother can force an under aged child into have necessary surgery for health issues, that would be why a child of 12 would need to have a circumcision.

No one can force a woman of any age to have an abortion. She protected by the constitution.

Her unborn child is not.

well of course you'd have a choice.
your mother cant control you, as youve learned by being 16 and sexually active [not that im saying there is anything wrong with that, b/c i just turned 15 a week ago and am about to have a baby..] so if you dont wanna have an abortion, then you dont have to get one. its all up to you, not your mom.

Your mom couldnt force you to get an abortion, its your life, body and your choice. I hope you relaize what you are up against beig sexually active at 16, there are so many diseases out there and what would you do if you got preganant? Just some things to think about. I hope you are being careful and using preotection every time.

Your mother is talking some sense, what would you do with a baby aged only 16? Who's going to pay for the expense, what about your life? If such is your choice, you do have the right to do so, but think twice. It is not just your will against your mom's.
Your mom should be more tolerant too. It is not because you have a sex life that you necerally need to become pregnant.

Yes, of course you would have a choice. Even if you are a minor, your mother cannot force you to get an abortion since it is your body and your child. Don't ever let someone make such a huge decision for you.

Your mom has no choice in it. She's not the one pregnant, you are. It's 100% your choice if you want one or not. I'm 17 and my mom knows I'm sexually active too, but told me she couldn't control what would happen with me if i got pregnant. I would have to make the choice.

No one can force you into an abortion. If that ever happened and she took you to a clinic you need to tell the doctors right away that this is against your will and you do NOT want one. They won't do it, they need patient consent.
