There are certain medications to be avoided in the first trimester and your doctor or midwife can tell you about these. Also be aware of any spotting or bleeding during the first three months and always report it to your provider, just in case.
As to coping with morning sickness, it depends on how bad it is. For mild cases, you can make dietary changes like eating crackers before you get out of bed, and eating throughout the day to avoid "hunger nausea."
For moderate morning sickness or all day sickness, try the Unisom-B6 combo morning and night (half a unisom and 50 mg of B6) and see if that helps. Also find foods you can tolerate and eat them in small amounts all day. Get extra sleep.
For severe morning sickness or frequent vomiting, you might need prescription meds which your doctor can help you with.
Congrats!

Don't take any medications unless you HAVE too, like Tylenol. And to cope with morning sickness there are a few suggestions, but none worked for me. Like before you get out of bed in the morning eat a couple of crackers, and get up slowly. Or eating like 6 small meals a day instead of 3 big ones, never let your stomach get empty. Maybe even sipping on ginger ale. Just make sure you are drinking a lot of water so you do get dehydrated, that's really important. And If that fails call your doctor and let him know, there are some medications he can give you to help stop the vomiting. But if it gets to were you are throwing up more than 3x a day defaintly call you ob-gyn. Good Luck Mommy.

I know the doctor told me to be especially careful about taking any over the counter meds in early pregnancy. As far as morning sickness- strong peppermint worked for me
