He was not a crusader but explorer.
He wanted to find a sea-route to the Indian peninsula for trade purposes. The land route had many hazards. Vasco voyaged about 1492 round the cape of good hope, South Africa on the heels of Bartholomew Diaz.

mmmmm first I thought this was a tricky question ....... but hey, here's my answer anyway:

Vasco da Gama, never went on the Crusades!! The Crusades were carried to retrieve Jerusalem from the Muslims ....... Vasco da Gama never went to Jerusalem, or even near.

The Crusades took place between 1095 and 1291 ...... Vasco da Gama was born in 1460 (more or less) that is over 200 years after the last Crusade.

So the proper answer is: Vasco da Gama didn't went on Crusades because ....... he wasn't even born.

BTW he is famous for navigating the southern point of Africa from Atlantic to Indian Sea.
