If the owner shops around they can probably find a plumber that works on weekends without extra fees involved. There are a lot on the internet.

The ones that charge big fees are the ones in the yellowpages because they have to pay for those ads.

Also just because the plumbing is backing up does not mean that you are abusing the property. Our policy is that if the plumber says it was a plug from things that should not have been put in the disposal like potatoe skins, the tenants are charged.

I have an older rental that just needed the build up in the pipes snaked due to the age of the pipes. I paid to have it fixed that day.

I would offer to call out the plumber myself as the tenant and get a reason by the plumber........if it is a landlord problem she has to fix immediately. I would never go to a gas station before calling the county housing inspector.

These are the type of landlords that give other landlords a bad name. She doesn't want to deal with tenants. She's doing it for her son. I would consider looking for another landlord.

Of course you're entitled to working drainage in your rental unit, and the landlord should call a plumber or drainage company to have the situation remedied. Be aware, however, that if the work uncovers items that YOU have put into the drainage which is causing the blockage, the landlord has the right to charge you for the service.

I've had a couple of scenarios along this line, where the tenants were trying to flush disposable diapers and they plugged the drain system. Each tenant got the bill for the plumber.

I am renting now from a Landlord the does the very same thing she calls on everyone eles to fix the problems and they never get fixed what we do is get it done ourselves call her and tell her what we did and have that person send her the bill or we pay for it take it off our rent. Sounds to me that she doesnt care. I also agree that you shouldnt be going to gas stations to use the restroom call your country inspectors office have them come and check it out. Your local police station and give you the number or health department usually has an inspector within the building they do not tollorater SLUM LORDS so give them a call ASAP

She can and needs to call a plumber immediately. She is just trying to save the money because usually plumbers charge more on weekend/late night calls. Tell her your apartment is not in sanitary living conditions since the system is backed up and something needs to be done about it immediately. You are not paying monthly rent to have to travel to the gas station to use the restroom.

You are right. You have to have a functioning bathroom and your landlord is trying to save the emergency call fee. At least that is how it works in my area.

I don't know why you'd be destroying property or why your security deposit and rent should be increased......

The call will cost her more then your deposit.

You are both wrong.

You should take care not to abuse the plumbing.

She should call the plumber, but raise you rent because you are destroying property.
