I would put it up in a plastic wrapper and put somewhere safe. This is history and maybe antique. It is worth keeping in good shape and not more weathered. Could bring good money one day=======

i am a vexillologst [flag reseacher] and i also collect flags - particularly US flags what a nice little surprise to find a flag tucked away inside a book! the most valuable 48 star flags are those made between July 1912 and January 1913 why? because at this time there was still no regulations set about how the stars should be arranged - only that there should be the correct amount so if your flag has the stars in any arrangement except in 6 rows of 8 alligned under eachother with the stars ponting straight up then it will be worth a bit more than the average 48 star flag with that pattern an average 48 star flag with the stars in 6 rows of 8 alligned under eachothor with the stars pointing straight up -is unfortunatly not worth very much at all [above the value of the 5o star version}- simply because of the number of the flags that are available this flag was official in its fixed design from january 1913- july 1959 - 47 years - in which alot of flags were able to be made a small flag that can fit in a book - if in a reasonable condition that has the common star pattern could be worth at the most $1o older flags that have slighty yellowed white can be quite desirable but not essentl - if your flag looks new - it wont add any value to it moneywise over an aged looking flag possibly its highest value woulld be sentimental - that you found it inside the book and its a nice thing to keep - even just frame it and hang it on your wall :D

Wow, you found a 48-star flag at a yard sale? It is certainly okay to display, but I'd be worried about it getting stolen. (You're just planning to hang it on a wall inside your house, right?)

Yes it is ok to display it. No US flag is obsolete. Your flag may or may not be from the time when there were 48 states. These flags are still made today and are available to buy.

Yes, as long as the flag was once an official US flag it will always remain so. Even the historical US flag such as the 13-star Betsy Ross is still considered an official American flag.

I am lucky to have two of these flags (from my mother-in-law). I do display mine, but only inside my house. They are very valuable....if placed outside it is sure to be stolen. Also, if placed outside, with the fabric being over 50 years old, it would not last very long.

Yes but it might have an antique or collectors value, I would display it somewhere that the elements can't get to it.

Wow that's old ,unless two stars fell off or something. As long as it's not damaged in any way it should be fine .
