It says on the end of the lightbulb silly. Oh yeah and also a website. It varies though, a regular bulb is approx 6000 hours and a flourescent could be 11000 to 20000 hours so in other words they last for years. Flourscent bulbs are allegedly better because they use less power. They use about 13 watts compared to a 60 watt bulb which is a regular light bulb. So count the lights in your house and multiply that by 60 watts or by 13 watts and you'll see the power you'll save using flourescents. The one downfall of flourescents that most people don't know is that they have mercury in them which is not very good for then environment either. Don't put that in your assignment lol. Any other questions?

here are some arguments
FOR fluorescent bulbs:
-they use less electricity but produce the same amount of light (thereby making them a more eco-friendly choice by lowering the amount of CO2 released)
-they last longer
-they will save you money bc of these two reasons

AGAINST fluorescent bulbs
-they are harder to manufacture bc they are more complex than regular bulbs
-they contain a little bit of mercury which is bad for you and the environment (it will leak out if the tube is broken)
-they don't give as smooth of a light spectrum (incandescent bulbs produce a continuous spectrum which is more natural on the eyes)

In an incandescent gentle bulb, the filament operates at a severe temperature and slowly evaporates. In a fluorescent bulb, the cathodes function at a lots decrease temperature; in spite of the undeniable fact that those are degraded by using the years, the technique is a lot slower.

The compact fluorescent bulbs are supposed to last much longer than incandescents but in actual practice they will not last much longer in situations where if you are concious about turning off lights when not in use especially in high traffic areas .This really is not good news especially since they are banning incandescent bulbs in 2012 here.
